it’s so much more useful than just sitting on it
Details please!
Useful in the doorway of a tent as something to kneel/sit before you put your shoes on/off
A couple of years ago, my exped mat sprung a slow leak that I couldn’t locate so I used 3 foam sit mats as an emergency sleeping pad (luckily my two riding buddies also had brought theirs). Can’t say it was the comfiest night sleep but it was still a big improvement to none at all.
That was my go to method when Alpine climbing - my rucksack had an internal sleeve down the back with room for three cut down pieces of Karrimat (other closed cell foam mats are available) which was enough to cover shoulders down to around my knees.
I suppose my main "luxury" would be an inflatable pillow - as a side sleeper I need some head support.

Any mat is luxury. Coiled up rope makes a perfect bed.
(I hope I never do that again).
Next time fatbiking, I'll sleep on the tyres.
Much like Reginald, it's the little things in my case.
For glampacking I bring an old tiny little rag from which I can suck the dew in the morning.

Sometimes a full sized mat seems a luxury, sometimes it's an wool hat. A Kindle or a camera. Binoculars or a proper tent. It varies.
I tried a pillow (only for backpacking - a small S2S) for about 2 years and now it broke, I'll not replace it and am looking forward to one particular item less.
Or perhaps I'll bring my teddy bear and use it as a pillow.
