That confirms the info I got:
Alpinum wrote: Fri May 31, 2024 6:09 pm The end caps (give same freewheel) are always the same:
135 + 7 = 142 (X12)
141 + 7 = 148 (boost)
It's because your 142 mm hub has a "135 mm body" and your 148 mm hub has a "141 mm body".

I have a boost M1700 rear wheel in XD (yes, I tried the adaptors, theyre exactly same size as what's in the DTSwiss 350 hub!
So this M1700 rear wheel is 27.5"?
redefined_cycles wrote: Fri May 31, 2024 1:08 pm The boost is a straight pull m1700 wheels etc (removed) hub.
Hhmm... removed hub?
You have a 27.5" rim, some spokes and a boost hub from a M1700 rear wheel? All separated?

This is fun.

Been building wheels for the best part of almost 15 years now Gian. So I had started to split the boost wheelset in preparation for the SC build ages ago. But then this 29er wheelset came along and I didn't think to check that they're not boost at rear (Allen did clearly state this).

Just trying to find the fastest option to get myself going and also cannot afford an XD type cassette at the moment anyway. Got 2 normal shimano cassettes waiting to go on.

Lazarus wrote: Thu May 30, 2024 9:42 am If you only space out on one side you need to redish the wheel (as it wont be central)
Mine are 3mm spacers each side so keep wheel central
Never had any issues with ebay kits and done thousands of miles on minem
Now I understand the point you made.
This is why you had to use a spacer for your rotor; the kit in discussion holds the hub body centrally, adding 3 mm per side.
Sorry, I should've looked at some of the posts more carefully and wouldn't have caused less confusion (or tries to make one elsewhere).

We all live in a Land Of Confusion.

The split wheel is the boost M1700, assumingly 27.5, yes?
The 29er wheelset from Allen is the one with the non boost 350. Okay, I think I finally got it.

I guess the boost hub has different hole count than your non boost hub..?
If it had same hole count, both eg straight pull (which the M1700 Splines are as far as I remember), you could easily lace the boost hub up with the parts of Allen's former wheelset. But I'm sure you'd thought of that already if doable.

 We all love in a land of confusion. To be honest, with the M1700 Boost Hub (yes, its 27.5) I couldn't be bothered trying to figure out spoke lengths as my Wheel builder book is too old to have needed to go into that.

Plus, Allen's (sorry Allen... you just keep your head down and get that HT550 finished pls) 350 hub is a standard flange so the spokes wouldnt work. Off course there is the slight possibility that the old straight pull spokes from the 27.5 might just be long enough. But I really doubt that.

Add to that, the XD hub did come with a Shimano freehub. But, the state of my workshop is such that, I dont know where it is at the moment

Bloomin mountain bikes on a shoestring diet!!

For completeness of information: So I split the front wheel with the DT Swiss boost hub (M1700 27.5). At some point it will want building into the front 29er wheel as thats a Bontrager hub and who has them longer term  That rim I can locate but lost the hub!!

Tye rear boost M1700 hub with XD driver. Both still intact and available/locate-able. But if I did built it into the 29er rim, I'd be without a cassette as I either lost or sold that.

Now, there is the spare freehub to put into that boost rear M1700 (wheel) hub. But, I lost that freehub!!

Its a tough life being Shafiq. Fixed up the shed and outhouse to arrange and organise stuff. Got 70% through but then things got misplaced. So it once again became a horrible mess.

Whenever I tell anyone I have dyslexia, they say 'but you can spell'. Yes, but the actual diagnosis (at Huddersfield uni) was organisational difficulties: sentence structure, life, diaries, workshop. Dad gave up trying to help me organise when I was about 18. Still remember the mess on the side eof the bed in a little pile.

My dyslexia tutor at Hudds uni used to have a similar mess of books in the middle of his table. Apparently it wasnt a mess though as he knew where everything was. Hard building bikes like this so easy to just sell stuff on

Almost 50 years old now, so surely can't be that much longer before I go to God and stop being so disorganised. At least I know where my Wheel building jig is (the Pedro's one I'll have you know). I also know where the thrus axle adaptor is to use on said jig with big hubs!! Alhamdulillah...
