These thorns come from the most common tree in the area. My Schwalbe Marathon Mondials can ride over these all day and have done. Although not trendy with the bikepackers.
You will also need to sift the sand each night as the dead/old branches are buried.

There is a bird that stores its food on the end of spikes in trees and cactus. Sometimes they are still alive. Next to this lizard are a couple of crickets still kicking (batting) away.
Paid cave accom. But I am claiming it, as it was a tough sandy offroad trail to get to. A cave, up a cliff, overlooking the Atlantic. The building is the kitchen.
Just got back. 3 1/2 weeks of winter sun. First couple of weeks were great but then I ended up having a lot of problems with the police. I'll post separately on that. It wasn't a pleasant experience and you need to be aware if going out there.

Internet is very slow, so will post later when it improves.
Just spent a fun afternoon dropping scorpions on top of spiders.
I have been zapped twice by a scorpion, so I don't feel bad about doing this. A bit of light relief after a day of 15-20% of up-hilling.
You've been zapped twice by scorpions and now you are getting your own back by throwing them on top of spiders... Rasta.. you are just too cool man...
Hmmmm! Your comment could be interpreted in different ways.
But a bit of a coincidence, as I had some scorpions for lunch yesterday (Spain).
The zappings were on a different trip a few years ago.
Also, the bird that puts its food on the spikes is a shrike. Butcher bird.

haha... I meant it in a good way. That you're a madman and supertough. Most of us (apologies to yhe other BBs if I'm wrong) if we saw a scorpion would walk (probably run or ride) the other way. You on the other hand are not happy with just facing them off (then eating them it seems) but are throwing them on top of scary spiders to watch a death match... mad, I tell ya
Keen to hear more too. Morocco is on the bucket list of many of us but perhaps not if you run a chance of bothying in a lock up.
Maybe that bucket list should be replaced (maybe temporarily if needs must) to Malaysia... Food is absolutely vaguely exciting as well as the people equally as nice and its my educated guesstimate that there won't be similar problems as there were for PushbikeGirl or Rasta with the coppers.
Malaysia might be alot busier and less remote in certain areas though!... Although I could be wrong with all of the above but I also reckon theres less scorpions and CamelBack spiders (apprearently their bite disintegrates the skin!!)
If Malaysia is where the Atlas mountain range is then my buddies regularly go for a charity fundraising ride through the mountains (even though they dont have much of a clue of riding off road) and yet to hear a bad report about expereinces of people/culture/rozzers.... I believe the coppers in Malaysia will be alot more honest aswell (who said coppers were dishonest ever! )
