Yesterday I scored a massive pile of tongue and groove cladding from a lady on Freecycle from an old flat with floor-to-ceiling wood panelling that she's renovating:



Last year a I built a 12 foot square covered deck in the garden. The plan was always to make the back part of it into a shed (i.e. with walls around it) but I didn't plan exactly how that was going to happen for fear of never starting.

I made some racking and used some corrugated plastic packaging as temporary walls, then, when I got sick of the old shed lingering in the garden waiting to be dismantled, I shifted the rest of the stuff it contained into the new shed and nailed some butchered bits of the old shed to the new one as a temporary front wall. Meantime, I've watched the price of timber go through the roof. This is what it looks like now (well not right now):

It was a bit breezy on my ride home, had to dismount to climb over trees 3 times within half a mile of cycle track. After that the others had fallen more considerately and I could just ride round them. There's a carpet of twigs and branches covering the whole route but I could just ride over them as well, only had to bunny hop one, which fortunately wasn't very big

Aye its cheery, Mum has dealt with B cancer related opp famously, survived another hectic week at work and just been out for a breezy bike ride. I had a puncture at one point which was most annoying (just as it was getting dark / rain coming on / wind getting up) but I seem to be able to deal with such things with serenity these days. Is this old age?

It's funny really. Time was a path that turned into a tussock and bog infested schlep, a climb which made your neck hurt looking up it or the aforementioned puncture in the dark/rain/wind etc. used to cause immense amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth, nowadays it just causes a rolling of the eye, a grumble and then you just get on with it. Cheers, sounds like you've spent way too much of your life banging nails out of pallets and such too Once you've found the right method for whatever you're working with it gets a lot quicker. In this case it was mainly tap back out, or pull through with mole grips, which didn't really cause any obvious damage. Got through the whole lot on Friday, reckon there's about 100 lengths, mostly 8-10 foot, so should be enough to do that whole front of the shed, and maybe one side, then I can just board the back where it's not visible.

Ta! When I built this deck, I envisaged barbecues and parties, but it's mostly just a really good place to dry stuff, even when it's persisting it down.

I know, I know, it's only Thursday....

Not very cheery at all in terms of world news, but I'm cheery because today I'm driving up to Caersws for a work thing, always a pleasure to be out and about in Mid Wales countryside, and knowing that I am vaguely passing the playgrounds of bikepacking...

Also on the Arial - I do like the shear size of the gears and shafts. Made unit single BSA boxes look like lego.

So.....after struggling through 'piece of sh*t Thursday' today I've decided I'm shoehorning some cheeriness into tomorrow.

Gonna ditch work, ignore the fact that I've got children on half-term, overlook my current fitness levels and bugger off somewhere pretty with my bike for the day.
