Re: HT550 2016 ITT starters
I'm wondering if he's going to push on up the 'horn and over to Lone or stop just after the river crossing as there is nowhere to camp between the too places!

I've camped on the Bealach Horn and had the most memorable sunset ever. As long as he takes water up from the river crossing it will make a good spot - bright, airy (midge free) and lots of space for a good pitch. There are some good sheltered spots in the rocks just to the NNW if needed too.

Looks like hes stopped just after the river which is a good sheltered spot but he may have to share it with the midges! Good ride from Howard today - near on 90 miles I reckon

Howard's enjoying the mighty Drumbeg Stores by the look of it.
Well deserved. Bet it's gorgeous along there today.

What a beautiful way do ride the HT550boxelder wrote:Now cruising down the road for dinner at Oykel Bridge - a great feeds day!

This is just as inspiring as Huw's ride was.
Covering good distance and not letting any opportunity out to take a break for a decent meal.
He's got a Twitter account and has a few pictures up. Truly gorgeousboxelder wrote:Howard's enjoying the mighty Drumbeg Stores by the look of it.

He is totally doing what I intend to do around the USA - eating trip. Except I suspect he is getting better food.

Re: HT550 2016 ITT starters
I hate to break this to you Greg, but you wont get pie, mash and peas over there......
An early finish tonight, stocking up in Ullapool before pushing on through Fisherfield?

looking at the forecast he's getting stunning weather - I'm so jealous (and so peed off I'm not starting on Saturday!) I'm guessing he'll stop dwon near the schoolhouse which will put him in Ullapool in time for breakfast.

Right, that's it. Not going.Chew wrote:I hate to break this to you Greg, but you wont get pie, mash and peas over there......

Canadian bagels and muffins near the start, through to Burritos and chilli dogs near the end.......Right, that's it. Not going.

Howard's still making good progress. About to hit Kinlochewe for what should be a cracking breakfast at the Whistle Stop Café.

At that pace he should get in either on Friday late or early Saturday. I was at the Whistle Stop for it opening on the Thursday, Camban that night and then above Kinlochleven on the Friday.
Tom - re the Whistle Stop - are their breakfasts ever anything but amazing? Their porridge is brilliant.

One of the highlights of 2013 for me -sat down to a double breakfast and the lady handed me a jar of honey - there was no honey left after it. They looked confused. I was quite giddy over Torridon.AlasdairMc wrote:At that pace he should get in either on Friday late or early Saturday. Re: HT550 2016 ITT starters
Howard's not far off Dornie now. Is the tricky gate just ahead?
So are the major difficulties now just the climb out of Glen Lichd over to Camban and the Devil's Staircase from Kinlochleven?

Re: HT550 2016 ITT starters
The tricky gate is not even on the route. It's 50m down the hill from the easy gate. Hold the line!
Will Howard "carry on camping" or go to Camban? I suspect he'll press on past and camp.

Re: HT550 2016 ITT starters
Depends on how much the push takes out of him up to Camban. Sweepstake says he'll arrive at 9pm.....
Wheres he getting the weather from? Its been miserable down here

Re: HT550 2016 ITT starters
He seems to have really cracked on today - not much of a stop at Dornie and he went straight past the Loch Carron hotel. Headwind central along Glen Affric sadly but tailwind-tastic down the great glen tomorrow. He may meet some traffic on the run into Tyndrum on Saturday!

Nah, no chance he'll stop before the finish now.He may meet some traffic on the run into Tyndrum on Saturday!
It will probably be a late one, but I hope there will be a good reception committee for him with all the racers lined up ready to go in the morning.

Assuming Howard bashes on without stopping much I think we're looking at a midnight finish.

Re: HT550 2016 ITT starters
He's on the climb out of Glen Nevis. Maybe a last refuel in Kinlochleven then over the Devil's Staircase and the home straight
