Ian, for your personal interest have you considered adding a line on the entry form stating which bike your considering doing the event on. Might provide an interesting little poll/insight

Can the inter web cope with all the "happy new year" Tweets AND the rush to be first entry in, could be meltdown.

Good idea - I'll put that in.

There will be two tick boxes too - one to say whether or not you have a SPOT tracker, and one asking if you'd be cool to pay a small fee for live tracking on Trackleaders.com. I accept that many might have a SPOT or want to to be tracked, but if the fast guys are up for it, it'd be good for the armchair/ blue dot crowd.

Might just be so I can see what people will be riding, but as people are inclined to change their mind, it might be a pointless exercise...

There are 5, maybe 6, Trackleader SPoT 1's in Cardiff that could be available for hire for tracking purposes.

Assuming I get in I will use my SPoT.

I was wondering how many billy-no-mates will have entered by 00.05!

Will we have to declare our distance? I assume we can change our mind on the day if things are going badly. Or even well.

What time are people looking at for the 100? Worth carrying bivi bag just in case?

Well I'm aiming to do the 200 in one sitting. At 8mph average that's 25hours which is only slightly faster than my BB200 average and I spent way to long not moving during that. That was my biggest lesson learnt. In 20 and half hours I spent almost 3 and half hours static. WTF how did that happen?

Anyway I'll have less gear and will be on my new bike which is far better at mile munching than my P7. More climbing sure but no hike-a-bike and I won't be carrying bivi gear.

Ultimately I think as long as you have enough food if you are out in the middle of no where what choice do you have but to get to the finish?

The weather may play a big part though, if there are crazy head winds or I'm soaked to the skin by the time I get to the route split I might just do the 100.

I don't fancy single-speeding it on my rigid 26 so will be on my Scott 29er with 29x2.0 race king tyres.

To add to composite's post I thought I could ride 16kph for 20 hours allowing 4 hours for eating, re-supply and faffing to finish in 24 hours. I am struggling to hit 17kph in East Mids on my vastly over geared cross bike. Will have to go to mtb for the gears I think, and reassess what I am capable of.

Reasoning was that it was 'just' fire roads and probably 99%+ rideable. Food could weigh me down a bit, how many energy bars will fit in a Wildcat Ocelot?

I'm planning a bivvy on the 200 so it will be a dry run for the htr. Looking to do it on the 29er that is currently a small pile of parts awaiting a frame next week.

Just a small hurdle of kids birthdays a few days before to sort out first. We'll, I say kids, they are 23 and 25.

Weather will play a part in how fast the course is. In the dry, I've done the 100 in under 9 hours (19.9 kph average). That probably represented my peak of fitness this year and if conditions are comparable, I'm certain it will be beaten next April. However, for me the bigger achievement lay in the differential between my moving time and my stopped time, which was only 8 minutes.

I might put the rigid fork on my Lurcher; that saves a kilo right there. I'll go with the Maxxis Aspen tyres as well as they roll like stink. :D

When entries open do we have to commit to either the 200 or the 100 and we can't change?

If the training has gone well and the weather is good, could those doing the 100 just nip off route and do a lap of the 200?

I don't know if I've expressed an interest as yet, but I am hoping to sneak an entry in to the 200.

I'll be riding my HT race bike, 29er probably with the kit I'm planning on taking to scotland as a long day (!) out. Not thought about completion time yet lots could happen between now and then...

oh yes, aspens, ikons or SB8's i shuold think...

I wouldn't worry about making sure you sign up to the right distance. I mean even if I didn't get one of the 80 places I would still turn up and ride on the day. :D
