Went out for the normal dog walk/bike this evening, it was freezing!

That's a fine question to which I don't know the answer! Also don't know if we have a lunch option for Sunday either. I have a huge dutch oven for cooking on a camp fire but it weighs about as much as my bike so I won't be bringing that

We'll pass eateries/food places, but not sure if that'll be at the right time ish

I'm planning to bring a load of energy/snack bars or similar snacking food so unless we have a good option I'll eat a few of those with some coffee

Do you really expect a dozen blokes to resist having a "camping stove nerd-off"?
Bring some breakfast.
Then we'll ride to a caff and have some more breakfast .
Rumsey's chocolate cafe in Wendover would make a particularly indulgent choice.

Yep Rumseys would be a very indulgent choice - i was passing there with my lad a few weeks ago and for various reasons he reckoned he owed his mum (curiously enough aka Mrs Perrin) a little prezzie. Ohh look a nice little box of about 8 or 10 choccies, we'll have that. Ten of your English pounds!!!! I'm sure just a cuppa there will be far more affordable though so fear not chaps :)

A 'cook off' is very admirable and should be encouraged. However, I would just like to point out that there are standards to be maintained and traditions to be upheld.

1/ Dress should be formal.


2/ Appropriate drinks should be served.


3/ A menu is a must.


4/ Don't forget the importance of presentation.


5/ Remember the after dinner mints.

Moose steak?? Where the hell are we going to get one of those in the Home Counties chaps? We're in trouble unless somebody can come up with something pretty damn devastating in 5 days.

I love it when Stu chips in and reminds us that we have to raise the steaks, sorry - stakes, higher to catch him and the BBB elder statesmen napping :).

Maybe the only way to win is to go in the other direction - present the least appetising/impressive meal. ..

I've just been experimenting with a Christmas pudding and a bottle of rum. I'd forgotten just how impressive the flames can be .

Breakfast, not sure, bring something perhaps and I'll check the route when I'm back home. I like Pete's plan .. Lunch no prob, there's the cafe in Wendover town centre and one up in the woods also. Ashridge cafe is on the way back from Tring station.

Reg, I think we're aiming for the Cog Cafe in Tring at noon, though I'll be passing Tring station about 1130 so could meet ya there if you want to get the early train, and we can toddle into town and get a sarny.

Ive just got back from walking the dog. It's a genuine 10 degrees out there and I was in shorts and a thin fleece. I need to rethink my kit.

Earlier plan posted up on previous page was Tring station at 12, head to cafe from there. Makes no odds to me as the ride from Berkhamsted is easily varied, but if anyone is arriving at 11.30 we'll need to hang on til 12 for others anyway?

Having spoken to Herself yesterday I will now be a Tring departure. Trains arrive at 11.17, 11.47 and 12.02.

Will aim for 11.47 (to give me leeway if I mess up) if people are meeting at 12 but I see a couple are arriving earlier at ~11.30. Happy to get 11.17 arrival if everybody is ready to go earlier but are there peeps arriving for 12?

After the ride on Sunday is anybody aiming in the Luton direction? I plan to get a train home from there so wondered if there would be any company.

Re Tring stn, personally think James is right, he did say 12 was agreed or we'll get in a tangle. I'll get there 1135 and wait. At the risk of millions of posts we could build a list of who will be where/when and see if that then allows any adjustments. So that's me anyway: Tring stn 11.35.
