Agreed i have a flat one youbput together and only really jse it ehen i am more camping / touring than riding . They work pretty well to be fair. But you do have to wait a while.for it to cool down to take apart . Folding might be quicker but where you putting your hot metal ? All your kit easily melts

I've never ridden a Brompton, and i've never seriously considered one as i'm nearly 6'2" and i've no interest in skinny 16inch wheels. However, this looks pretty cool, and i can see it as a bit more versatile multi-terrain traveller. It looks pretty cool, and those discs are dinky! Expensive too, as they all are, but about what you'd expect for assembled in uk, and apparently paying London living wage, which is good (it says something when it's part of the positive marketing that they pay people just enough money... )

How good that looks will be inversely proportional to how well it rides, how necessary gravel tyres are for a bike that will be hopeless on anything other that tarmac and how pointless disc brakes are on a 16" wheeled bike.

As someone with over a dozen bikes and the ability to man-maths a reason to own many more, I still can't find a reason to own a Brompton whilst living in a rural town with little public transport.

Found the article now..."The G Line is the first Brompton to ride like a full-size bike across multiple types of terrain". At least it has 20" wheels, gives it a bit more chance. £2400...buy a Bike Friday All Packa instead.

Should have mentioned it has gone to 20inch wheels, if that makes much difference...although that's the wheel size my 6 year old rides so it still feels odd to me. I know the town in question and agree it doesn't make any sense unless you're taking it on transport and putting under your desk. I luckily live in a well connected place, but just have a 'normal' town bike and lock it up at the station. My office is also right next to the station at the other end, so again no need there...

Still quite like the look of it and it's utility potential for the right person at least...

Not so sure - I have a Brompton, used to use it for train commuting in the SE and now occasional use over longer distances in a hillier area. This new model is a good thing, bigger wheels are better on the lanes (I have a Dahon 20 x 45mm wheeled bike that's my pick over the Brompton for a rural 7 miles to a station near here) .. more grip is a good thing, and 16" rims with rim brakes wear rims fast and produce a lot of grey gunk in the wet, so discs are very welcome.

^ love those Bike Fridays. I think the Brompton has it beat on folding ease from what I remember of a friend's BF but the BF may ride better overall.

There's a whole new world of lightweight parts coming isn't there. My S2 is ~11.5kg with guards, plus a bit for the SON hub lighting, less a bit for Ti bars foam grips 180g saddle etc - 12kg total maybe. +3.5kg for the 20" equivalent? Not too bad, not off-putting but 12kg is already enough when lugging it around, the new one is a bit wider so potentially a bit more awkward to carry too.

Tailfin's new bar bag has dropped today. And I have already have it on order. Finally something that looks like it will work off the shelf for short asses, without having to resort to handlebar extenders and bungee to keepnet from bouncing off my front wheel (which is why I'm not concerned about the weight).
