I might well take you up on that offer, I've worked out how to get about 1/4 of the way there using routes I already know of, that get me to around ruthin, using a 50/50 split of and off road. Which is why I'm toying with the idea of possibly using the cx bike, as opposed to the ht. My other option is roads all the way, but I'm not keen.

Google maps says i can cycle in 20 hours from sunny southampton
might have to do some on a train, so where to get off the train for a good days ride off road?

In keeping with the cycling in theme but also limited through
Time and fitness(hopefully a lot better by then), I was thinking of
Getting the train some of the distance then riding in. I could come
Via the Bala/ North Wales direction or Welshpool/Shrewsbury way,
However Im not a fan of road cycling so the A470/ A483 route
Doesn't float my boat.....anybody any routes they'd like to share ?
Thanks in advance
Give me a starting GR and I'll give you a route.
Cheers Stu, I'll have a look and let you know
Ootini ; We may be able to meet up on the way in ?

Shrewsbury perhaps and come in via Bishops Castle and the Kerry Ridgeway? I always enjoy that.

I've got a pass from Mrs Barney
I'll be driving from The Wirral, happy to offer lift if anyone wants one en-route
Being the wuss I am though I suspect I'll be driving most of the way

Barney, I was toying with leaving Friday lunch time, getting to bala Friday night, then taking it easy Saturday making up the rest of the distance. No idea on an exact route yet though.

One problem I can foresee here is all these bikes finding places on trains
Barney - nothing wussy about that,i'd do the same but the missus will have the car.

Worst case senior Kevin, I'll be parking up at a certain community centre.

I think Bala is a good meeting point for the northern contingent. I'm not far from the coast so will be heading straight down the vale of Clwyd, or along the clwydian hills, then making my way down down to bala itself. At which point I'll be relying on Stu / others with more experience in that area for the rest of the route.

Dead easy from Bala Dave ... any preference in terrain / surface / distance, etc?

Hi Stu, I kinda like meandering xc stuff. Bridle ways, double / single track. Leg destroying climbs can be missed
What are the options on distance ?

I'll look at the route options and let you know. There is likely to be one 'proper' climb involved as there's a rather big hill that separates us from the north, however it can be minimised

Via Cardiff, north to Crossgates. 10 miles into Rhayader then onto the TCW north. Drop off at Staylittle and drop down to BBT. Job done.
@Composite...you know where I am fella...either some easy road, some silly offroad or a train ride to Caersws will work. Options a and c will be easy on the knees...mostly. Beer will help you ignore them. Gitonup!

So, Its 98m from Northwich, down via Whitchurch, Welshpool etc.. SteveM another further 20m away, but we'll be riding it together.
We could easily join the Shropshire group.
Hmm...
best try and get into some kind shape.

Its looking increasingly likely I'll still be in Northwich until July, so if you fancied joining forces we could ride down together Nick.
We never did sort that ride out over the summer

So is this confirmed for the start of July now? Want to make sure I don't arrange anything else for the same time.
