I really hope 29+ doesn't disappear. It makes a lot of sense in the right application. I reckon it'll stick around as a niche for a while yet.

They'll still be exactly the same as they were this time yesterday, last week or last year. However, many people who ordered a Rooster may not be aware of this fact and in their quest to make sure they're onto the latest thing ... well, you know the rest.

Or is it that no one who ordered a rooster had time to amass a big box of parts before their frame turned up so that they could readily ping off and buy a marin for half the price?

The bike industry does seem to be desperate to sell everybody 650b to the exclusion of all else. I wish they would accept that all the different wheel sizes (including 26) has its uses and followers and all they need to do is give us the choice.

I've heard a read a few comments suggesting 29+ is variously 'dead' 'white elephant' 'pointless' etc. Typically by people who've never ridden one...

Surely 29+ will retain a following amongst the taller riders?

I amassed a frame (ordered) and wheel (rear) pretty quick. A bunch of other bits are floating around. However, after everything started to go south I decided not to tie up any more than the £600 already spent before the damn thing arrived

At least I got a bargain out of Dave I shouldn't joke, I think for a while all the "drama" and mystery of whether they'd ever happen properly ticked him off

Mine's turned up, but not the rims. They'll be following on Monday.
I'm planning on getting the rims anodised red, so it would have been nice to get them in advance so they could be ready and waiting for the frame. I deliberately didn't pester Sam for them as I thought it would be easier for him to send the whole lot in one go.

I liked the idea of the modular cable guides as I thought they'd be ideal for the Rohloff, except that the left hand seat stay, where I want to run the two Rohloff cables, has got single weld on guides.



Other than that, it's looking good so far.

I'm not colour blind, but did the test anyway. Some were really difficult to spot, bordering on me having to guess between 5, 6, 8 or 9 on a few

Bit of a thread derail - I'm colour blind too and it said I'm red-green colour blind (correctly), extreme deutan apparently, and there's only a 50% the glasses will work

I'd make a terrible product reviewer, my ability to describe a bike's characteristics is pretty much limited to "I haven't crashed it yet, so it must handle OK".
I've done about 65km on it so far, including a night out on Clee Hill and I like it. My only previous experience of 29+ was a lap of the Battle on the Beach course on a Surly demo bike.
It suits my type of riding. I like to do long distance with as much as possible off road, even if that means somewhat illogically riding 5km on tarmac to incorporate 1km of bridleway rather than take the direct 3km road route. The fat tyres are a bit slower than 29x2.00 on tarmac, but then 29x2.00s are a lot slower than 700c32 'cross tyres. Every bike's a compromise and this just nudges the compromise a bit further the one way than a "normal" mountain bike.
What I liked best about the Surly demo bike and now the Rooster is the comfort while sitting down and pedalling over rough ground. Hard packed trails are OK on a hardtail 29er, but proper bumpy stone tracks or those bridleways on open moorland or that are just two gates on opposite sides of a field with no clearly defined path get a bit tiring after a while. 29+ is ideal for that.

My only critscism of the frame and fork is the lack of bottle cage mounts.
I've already mentioned the cable guides, but as Rohloff 29+ is a niche within a niche, maybe I'm expecting too much for manufacturers to cater for it.
However, with three bolt Gorilla Cage mounts on the forks, the bike is apparently aimed at bikepackers, so having just one bottle cage mounting on the down tube is a bit puzzling. Something like two on the downtube, one on the seat tube and another one or two under the downtube would have left more options open.
