Tarp/tent pole - any suggestions?

Post by Stevemorg »

I've just taken the plunge and ordered a mini peak 2 tent. They suggest a 145cm pole - I've a couple of walking poles that will do the job but am looking at some other options.
The mini peak 2 pole looks ok but is over 400gm and £30 - my walking poles weigh the same and won't cost me anything - any suggestions for a suitable pole as an alternative? It would be good if it could be uk sourced rather than having to order it from the U.S

'Bout time you stuck your hand in yer pocket ;)

Try this - http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/ ... _5_ft.html I've used one for the last few months, can't fault it. Just fasten it to the downtube with a couple of lengths of shockcord.

There are a few lighter alternatives but I'm not sure I'd ask then to support something like a Mini-Peak

Is that the pole you've been using for your Trailstar?
What are you using as your other pole?

Yes, I shortened the bottom and middle sections by 150mm each, which leaves an adjustable pole between 1m and 1.3m (I recall). Anything seems to work as a front pole, stick, wheel or old length of aluminium tent pole. If you're pitching it high then your existing ultralight tarp pole will be fine for the front ... although too long if pitched low.
