Here's a write up of my recent 4 day trip from Perth via, Glen Almond, Glen Tilt and the Deeside way back to Aberdeen.

Not the most adventurous route by many standards, but a lovely one to do and one I'd happily do again.

Yeh was a good trip I'd happily repeat. Though I'd plan to do some more forestry tracks on the way down the dee without the fork issue. Was rideable but crud guard caught when I turned, had to watch my feet too and brake hose. Bar bags kept out the way though.

Fork replacement decisions are driving me mad lol!

Nice one - a real epic! A fair play for keeping your cool when you'd realised you'd left your bag in the bothy....
Am I the only one who thinks suspension forks should have steel springs? heavy but reliable.

Yeh I was fairly philosophical about the bum bag, as I had no choice other than to go back for it and atleast where it was and I knew that I was going to be back on a good track.

The suspension too was an oh well moment, as long as I can get stuff out the way and carry on as I knew I could pretty much stick to quiet roads. Wrists are still aching though.

Rigid forks ah hoy!

Sounds like a great trip; I hope the setbacks didn't spoil the fun too much.
It looks like your bike was quite new: did you take it back to the shop when the fork broke?
Did the fork use an air spring or coil spring?
What was the outcome?

Nah the bikes a couple of years old, it wouldn't look new if you saw it in the flesh. It's done a few few day loaded trips as well as plenty of day rides.

It was a cheap coil spring fork that came with the bike, roxshock xc30, and the thread had stripped out in the crown so it's now landfill Have got a rigid steel fork now as I don't do much technical stuff. I'll see how it goes and maybe get more suspension if it becomes necessary.
