little overnighter at charr -

Post by Trail-rat »

not strictly bike packing as we were comfy winter camping with a new tent and a new sleeping bag for mrs T-R(see the down bag thread on main page) .... so we went to test it ...

Rode into charr bothy last night and pitched up beside it before cooking curry on the stove and drinking wine.....a lack of fireplace at the bothy meant we had the whole place to our selves - although tbh we pinched the chairs and sat outside watching the sky.

watched the stars come out with a cloudless but highly moonlit night.....

forecast was for -8 ... and according to the nearby weatherstation - we got it....

the tent at 7am. Mrs t-r went to get water from the river and upon walking back the water in the pan froze !

the sun started to come up over the cairn o mount and we got quite the view from the tent door of white hills.

whats the big orange ball in the sky ?

ride back out this morning , met a slightly bemused estate worker out feeding the sheep in his landy and we were back in banchory for coffee by 11am. Now to spend as long drying the tent and washing the gear.

Quite enjoyed my night at Charr a couple of years ago.
Certainly wasn't that cold though.

Aye its clean, spacious and plenty of sleeping and sitting platforms , just meant its one of the less used bothies , certainly reading the guest book it would indicate that it has alot of passersby rather the over nighters.

The mrs just reminded me it was so cold the olive oil froze im its bottle inside the tent.... Freezing point of olive oil -6
