Anyone use a 'caternary cut' tarp?
Just wondering if anyone uses a catenary cut tarp and if you find there's any benefit to it ... less flappy or fewer guys needed perhaps?

Nope, I suspect it becomes more an issue with larger tarps, especially in wetter weather when fabrics start to sag.

MSR Parawing I have has a caternary cut. It's extremely stable, but is huge! Has withstood some great weather in the Alps. I say get one.

I could have put this on the post man's been thread but decided to put it here instead. It's going to take a little playing about with to the get the hang of setting the height but what they say about them being very stable is certainly true.

Set high ... possibly too high, unless it's very nice weather.

This time set low. Still enough room to sit up and cook at the front and big enough for two to sleep under. Around 380g with lines but no pegs.

It looks like it has a very " specific" cut. Does that mean you lose a lot of versatility / pitching options?
Just curious. Looks very alien

My initial playing about would suggest you do over a 'normal' flat tarp. There's not much info/pics to be had on the web showing set-ups, altough I have seen it rigged in a 'lean-to' affair. I bought it knowing that I'd only really ever use it as an A frame ... although I have to say the serverity of the cut was a little bit of a surpriseIt looks like it has a very " specific" cut. Think
I'm rapidly learning Cuben RRP is rip off pricing! I toyed with the idea of the SilWing but went with one of the last SilShelters out there. Opinion is currently very mixed on it :?s8tannorm wrote:It is ... Stu - I suppose the subsequent question is how often / how important is it that you can pitch in the potential variety of positions a regular tarp offers?
