Memory Map Prints

Post by didnothingfatal »

400km+ route, gps loaded with route, but think I'd better take a print of the route, what scale would you print it at? 1:25000, 1:50000 or 1:100000?

It depends on what detail you need really. Sounds like it's going to be a lot of paper at 1:25000. 1:50000 would probably be the best.

Waterproof paper is a good idea in my experience.

Perhaps he's going for that one at Holyhead? ;)

DNF - 1:50,000 would be fine in the UK I would think? When I did the Wales coast to coast, I printed off small A5 tiles double sided of my route as a back up. I think I set the scale at 1:60,000 as it reduced the number of tiles quite a bit, but was still legible.

I would use the 1:25km maps but print 1:50. this then gives you max detail but you get more on an A4 page. I have just done all of mine to PDF and will print out at work at somepoint. they are 1:25/1:25 at present, there are I think 10 sheets. double sided shouldn't be too much of a problem and I reckon its still lighter than 3 OS maps (or FF 1x1:50k special).

route is huge print, so much waterproof paper.

Route is a loop of Scotland, got the summer off and may as well go travelling around and see some places, so WHW, Great Glen Way, Rob Roy Way and figuring out Inverness to Pitlochry although Sustrans Route 7 is the obvious route.

That's 15 Explorer Maps! I've merged 15x 1:25000 maps in Memory Map, it's looking doable, using the LDW's.

Bit cheeky I know but having just bought a load of OS maps I wondered if you would mind emailing me your pdf's?! I'm not after anyone else's route (I can screw that up by myself!) but just would prefer to have it all on A4/A3 so I can print, scribble all over it and laminate and only take what i need.

Would you mind?! ;)
Time would be better spent getting the miles in instead of fretting about how many ml of meths to carry...
