Can't really see any good reason for the actual design but I do like them.

It looks very like that extra bar is welded to the head tube, and the foot of the fork? Or am I looking at it wrong?
edit - I zoomed in and it seems there's a extra bit of fork that it attaches too, not the head tube. d'oh!

It's a rigid Lefty with another bit welded to the front.
a) I'm not sure I see the point, and
b) I'm not sure I like it aesthetically
