Superb, thanks!
One other thing I was going to do but didn't get around to yet was to change the two-line format into one-line. ie, only one set of vertical columns for inputting kit on the main_sheet. That way, you'd have to scroll more (which is not ideal), but you could create a group out of each kit location (Bar Harness / Saddle Bag etc) and collapse & expand them at will.
Whether that'll be appropriate or not if you're able to implement some kind of line insert/removal malarkey, I don't know. It'd leave a lot of blank space over on the right as well. I initially had it like that, and had the pie chart and totals tables on the right, but it wasn't possible to freeze them in that configuration, and I think it's crucial to be able to see the chart and tables at all times, no matter which item you're inputting.

In fact, I've now updated the sheet as per my thoughts above & I think it's a bit cleaner....

Re: [Geeks Corner] Show me your spreadsheets...
Sorry to deviate, but DNF which pot are you using with your cone?
The Caldera set-up is 51g for cone, 15g for burner so 66g before we even add the pot!

brilliant!pedalhead wrote:I've uploaded the spreadsheet as it is now to here...
once i'm not so tired that my vision is going blurred i'll take a proper look around and start whacking my kit on there!
does anyone know if there's an online resource which lists the weights of common camping/backpacking/bikepacking items (as some websites don't list the weights and i've only got some inaccurate kitchen scales)???
cheers, gairy.
Re: [Geeks Corner] Show me your spreadsheets...
Even inaccurate kitchen scales are going to be better than the rediculously optimistic weights most manufacturers claim. Even the good ones!
Re: [Geeks Corner] Show me your spreadsheets...
haha I've certainly never been called an Excel guru before! Actually I just googled everything I wanted to do with the spreadsheet...Excel can do just about anything! Hope it's of some use chaps. DNF is accepting requests to improve it (he's the proper expert I think!) :D
btw, I've got some cheap kitchen scales & they seem to be quite good.

I've been out-geeked

Anyway, spreadsheet looks very good. Thinking about the blank rows and such, could you not use pivot tables and pivot charts? That's kind of how mine works, except that Apple Numbers has an interesting function whereby you can make and data table perform like a pivot table without having to populate it separately. When I've got a quiet moment in the office and I'm sat in front of Excel, I'll have a proper gander at it.
There is a workaround for the VLOOKUP thing and dynamic named ranges. I use INDEX(range,Match(ref,row_range,,),Match(ref,col_range,,)) which I used it the other day for some work I'm doing for Torq Fitness

Re: [Geeks Corner] Show me your spreadsheets...
A few things I would find usefull
# the ability to list all your selected items in a particular category to see say for example what food you are carrying in total on the main sheet if it is spread around your luggage.
# A filter by category on the Kit List as I can imagine some peoples list would be huge
and I know I will be listing tons of different foods in my list as I find new stuff to scoff.
# Some way of showing calories for the food on the kit list and then calories per gram can be checked, and total calories packed.
Personal preference -
I will be adding a conversion to lbs for the total weight on the main sheet and adding it to a bike weight in lbs and water carried weight because theres nothing like the shock of realising you will be hauling a 40lb bike up welsh hills to make you reconsider taking that extra ("insert comfort blanket here")
Cheers Jack

A way of permanently recording what you took on each trip would be good and the ability to flag whether you used the item or not and any comments about the item in use would be nice.

Re: [Geeks Corner] Show me your spreadsheets...
i've been using my (version of your) spreadsheet fairly often - it's really helpful.
Re: [Geeks Corner] Show me your spreadsheets...
Where's DNF with a more fancy version with that export facility?
