Is there such a thing as a midge forecast? If so where?
I wanted to set off later this evening and Pootle round the peaks 200 route - but it looks like it might rain a bit, and increase the midge infestedness levels to a silly level. As I was only planning on taking a bivi bag and tarp I'm a bit concerned. I think I will either go made or ome back looking like quasimodo.
Is there such a thing as a midge forecast? If not can those of you who live in the peaks give some kind of rating for the midges atm.

Yes there is but it's only for Scotland ... why they need a forecast I don't know, it's Scotland, there'll be midges - simple
Sorry, I can't be anymore use ... although the 5 - 8m/s breeze that's forecast in the Peak should keep them down.

May the bridges you burn light your way

I wonder how good a mosquito net for a bike helmet would end up being. :D

Ha ha - it was more when I stopped that I was concerned about.

I hate eating them more than anything. I'm usually ok when I stop as I drown myself in smidge.

Been fairly midge free up here so far. Guess they'll be coming out now but shouldn't be as bad as last year....

Mosquitos everywhere down here in the south. Temp in the mid 30's and sleeping in a sheet. Windows wide open all night. Woke up with bites on my boobs and my ass. I'm going to pass on a bivvy.

I have worn a midge net over my helmet on a few occasions. Many in Scotland but also last weekend during the YD300.Richard G wrote:I wonder how good a mosquito net for a bike helmet would end up being. :D

Well as it turns out sitting down for a few minutes to contemplate the midges also made me contemplate how tired I was and how many jobs I had to do.
When I went to bed I felt a bit rubbish that I was not out as it looked like a nice night - however when I was woken up in the middle of the night by a massive thunderstorm and torrential rain I was actually quite happy I was in bed and not under a tarp.
Hope anyone who was out last night managed to stay dry

I was at a friends 30th birthday bbq/pub crawl in stamford saturday, saturday night and sunday morning. I slept in the garden on just my thermarest (basecamp glamping edition!) and a silk liner. Stayed dry, was lovely (slight er alcohol coat too!)adjustablewench wrote: Hope anyone who was out last night managed to stay dry

Hope you had fun - have spent many a night in Stamford, not many of them ending up with any kind of sleep so yours sounds very civilised!
