Maxxis tyre sizes?
So, over the weekend Stuart of RCC set me up with a pair of 2.4" Ardents for the yd300, and they're bloody vaguely exciting and the volume on my flows is imense (looks almost 29+)! Heres the but, I like really fast rolling tyres, so could anybody tell me about the size of 2.35 ikons compared to 2.4 Ardents on the same rims? I'm interested to know if the ikons will give a similar massive stature on flows to Ardents as that way I could have a slightly faster rear tyre.
Thanks in advance
Ben

tyre, f*ckin' tyre ... when did Yorkshire join the US of A?
Anyway, Ardents are massive. Have you considered a Crossmark for the rear? Seems to be a very common / popular combination.

Ben at the weekend I had a 2.35 ikon on my front and Stu - RCC Stu not the one who was grumpy earlier
Had one on as a rear tyre.
In any case if you want maxxis tyre/tires/tears/tired/whatever buy them quick as there is a legal dispute over the change of importer/distributor and there is hardly any in the uk

Re: Maxxis tyre sizes?
I remembered yours Ian, but they were on much wider rims, what was the rim width out of interest? I had forgotten RCC Stu had an ikon on the back, his rims are similar enought they should work as a comparison, cheers!ianfitz wrote:Ben at the weekend I had a 2.35 ikon on my front and Stu - RCC Stu not the one who was grumpy earlierHad one on as a rear tyre.

My front one is a light bicycle 35mm. Not sure on internal width but their website will tell you. Wiser than a non ex flow for sure though.

Re: Maxxis tyre sizes?
I have searched everywhere for 2.2 Ikons (TR with the sidewall protection - they are very prone to punctures without) but can't find any in Europe! The Ikons are good, but will probably go Back to Schwalbe Ralph's as they have been more reliable for me and easy to get hold of.
Re: Maxxis tyre sizes?
There is a legal dispute based around s change of importer/distributor there isn't much stick around. Nextdaytyres seem to have some stock. I snagged the last 2.35 ikon exo from there today

i have ardent front icon rear its very good , i did have a aspen rear but i split the side wall ( running tubeless) during an endurance xc race. so replaced it with the icon as it has a bit more grip. was really good pairing on the west highland way at the weekend, fast rolling but grippe and comfy on the decent and no flats . comfortable on the rough stuff even fully ridged. similar volume to the ardent on the front

Are you running a 2.2 Ikon or 2.35? Any chance you could you do a size comparison picture if its a 2.35?Single Speed George wrote:i have ardent front icon rear its very good , i did have a aspen rear but i split the side wall ( running tubeless) during an endurance xc race. so replaced it with the icon as it has a bit more grip. was really good pairing on the west highland way at the weekend, fast rolling but grippe and comfy on the decent and no flats . comfortable on the rough stuff even fully ridged. similar volume to the ardent on the front

Re: Maxxis tyre sizes?
i shall try and remember to check after work. think its the 2.2 icon and the 2.25 Ardent . so might not be as useful a comparison as you might like for the set up you are going for
