Mountain mayhem

Post by Taylor »

Just popped over to MM as the in laws only live a couple of miles away.
After 5 hours the team riders all look like they're about to die and the pace was rather pedestrian than the last time I raced in it.
£43 per rider for a team of 4 and they're slower than a Sunday ride with their mates. Isn't the whole idea of a race to go fast or am I just old fashioned?
I've not entered in MM in10 years, is this normal?

Team riders? As in sponsored?

I did it about 6 years ago, quite boring to be honest. The thought of doing laps doesn't appeal. Most people were friendly though

We did it as a team of 10 one year, with a few elite level riders in the team, it was hilarious! Monstering round at double the speed of 98% of other riders is a bit different...

Just ridden down to be the night time pit bitch for a mate doing a solo. It does all feel a bit pedestrian for many riders, but there seems to be a lot of solo riders this year. It's a long time since I have entered though.

Phil and Rich's Mayhem stats - 38laps, about 266 miles and 38,000ft of climbing.

Doesn't sound pedestrian to me.

To be fair, there were a few trying, but not many.

Good effort with 38 laps though. :-bd

I was supposed to be riding but blew my knee last weekend so was supporting a mate.
Good friendly weekend but things have moved on from the past. Not the same amount of elite riders as once was and a lot of new newish riders trying their first event. Made for a slower paced event but good to see people new to the support trying something new.
Even Pat admitted things have moved on from it being a racers event to being an event for the people.
Laps were shorter (40 min laps) and less techy than I remember from the past.
