User error
A smack with a soft hammer on the drive side and removing the 'extra' spacer did the trick

Just a thought, I wouldn't clamp it to the frame (on the bike stand), go with the seatpost as its cheaper to replace if you do the clamp too much (although probably not an issue with a steel frame)
