Cooking windsheilds

Post by ctznsmith »

Ok so currently I'm using two foil baking trays folded in half as a windshields for my Meths stove. Obviously this is far from perfect although very cheap!

What do other people use/suggest?

In my head I like the idea of something like a Caldera cone but that is more money than I really want to spend on a windshield. So ideas please.

(Someone I know did think they could make me a cone at their work but it appears all the metal sheeting they have access to is too thick.)

I believe there is a Caldera cone alternative that is just about* to be released from BB towers. :-bd

They do indeed

Windshields, although mind numbingly dull are actually quite complicated - see here: http://bearbonesbikepacking.blogspot.co ... ields.html but it's fairly easy to make something that will enhance the performance of your stove with a little thought and the right materials. If you require some 'right materials' give me a shout. If you'd rather buy something 'off the bench' that can be arranged too ... Mart and Paramart both have cones for 8g stoves and Mytimugs. The stove / mug isn't an ideal combination but the windshield makes them work perfectly together.

This is very timely Stu, was going to enquire about a cone for a 22g stove and RutaLocura 450 tipot (think its same size as old appkit myticup). How much for something of the "bench"

It should work okay but the 450 cup is really a bit small for the 22g stove but I'll come up with something ... I'll do some measuring and let you know Malc.
