Re: Gaiters
Rab Hispar event gaiters OR Integral designs event shortie gaiters
But in fairness I haven't worn gaiters in quite some time, usually wear breathable trail runners and get wet feet
Doesn't help that I don't get much time for proper walking these days

Re: Gaiters
Some mountain equipment gore pro things. Use them on the fat bike with success. Not cheap but they use a belt and braces approach to fastening, chunky zip and strong Velcro
Re: Gaiters
I use some Lowepro ones I've had for years when I remember
Light weight gaiters are great in principle, but this is an area that gets a fair bit of abuse.
Has anybody tried / use the ankle ones that some fell runners use?

Re: Gaiters
I've used Innov8 ones, mainly for keeping stones and stuff from finding their way into my shoes. The big trouble with gaiters and cycling is the underfoot fastening, not many cycling shoes have a raised heal, so there's nowhere for the strap to sit out of the way. It's fine while riding but not so much when walking / pushing ... the strap soon gets knackered.Has anybody tried / use the ankle ones that some fell runners use?
May the bridges you burn light your way

Re: Gaiters
I have a pair of the Rab scree gaiters. Pretty good at keeping crap out your shoes. What Stu says about the underfoot elastics is true enough, but they are easy to replace (the Rab ones even come with a spare pair) and I try not to walk too much when I'm cycling.welshwhit wrote: Has anybody tried / use the ankle ones that some fell runners use?

As for other duties. I have a pair of Le Chameau gaiters. They are pretty heavy duty, but really too heavy duty. I get sweaty legs when I wear them and for the walking I do I'm better off with wellies or muck boots if I need lower leg coverage and just wear normal boots unencumbered when I don't.

Re: Gaiters
Orienteering gaiters are good, also called bramble bashers. Lot slimmer and lighter than normal walking gaiters and longer than the ankle gaiters. Still got a few pairs from my orienteering days.

Re: Gaiters
I have the same Rab ones as Ian, they work a treat, and fit snugly so no catching on cranks...
Re: Gaiters
I reckon my surplus army gaiters in dpm are a touch overkill with steel cable underboot strap, massive zip, big velcro AND heavy duty one way poppers. But they were cheap!

Re: Gaiters
I use Berghaus Glacier ankle gaiters over my MT90 boots, and under my Altura waterproof trousers when the going is really filthy. Keeps airborne water (rain/snow, puddle-splash) from getting the tops of my boots. Never really tested wading through deeper water to see how effective they are, mainly because if its bad enough to be wearing them, I'd rather not risk getting even wetter and colder.

Re: Gaiters
Just bought myself some Latok Alpine gainers this evening. Look good, fit really well, eVent. Will be interesting to see how they perform when I'm next out.
