I normally wear a pair of specialized MTB shoes for my commute to work on the fixed. In this sort of weather that's fine for 30 mins with neoprene covers on.
However I found with my ride over the chase my feet got a little chilli and they were not great for grip in the mud either.
If I am to do some longer in the sticks riding with an overnight camp, I don't really want cold feet.
So what might you recommend for a shoe that is more designed for winter/bikepacking and does not need an overshoe.
At the moment I am thinking of the shimano MT 91 boot.
Good reviews for cycling and a bit of walking. Weatherproof more than normal shoe. Looks better off bike. Can also use these when taking daughter out on the bike and I'll look a bit more normal as they don't look like cycling shoes.
Any thoughts?

Try some Seal skin socks, then you can use your current shoes.

I tried sealskin socks and never got on with them feet still got cold. I now wear pure merino wool and even when wet so much better.
Sealskin and merino would work, but I would need one or two size larger shoes. As I can only get one pair on will my current shoes.
I might as well get a pair of purpose made winter shoes.

If you only have one pair of sealskin socks, wear them on day two of your ride when the boots are already saturated. Also, try some walking gaiters to cover the your lower leg

I've just bought a pair of Northwave Celcius GTX to replace a very old pair of Shimano winter boots. I was tempted to buy Shimano again but the reviews for the Northwave were consistently better. They seem very well made and are a good fit for my wide-ish feet. Paid just under £100 from Chain Reaction using one of their many discount codes.

Having suffered increasingly troublesome cold feet problems, I've just bought some mid-length neoprene socks which I will use in place of normal socks. Sure my feet will get very sweaty, but in conditions where staying dry is impossible, I'd rather have warm damp feet than cold wet numb blocks on the end of my legs. Will bring foot powder and dry socks for in the bivi.

I have decided to buy a pair of shimano MT 91 boots.

I wanted a winter boot but did not shout cycling that I can use off the bike and looks less cycle specific when I take my daughter out on her bike as well.
I'm also normally a Lycra wearer and it's going to be strange wearing cycle trousers.
