3.6kg Weight saving!

Post by Dave42w »

I'm preparing my Shand Stoater for the Ford Fiesta. That means stripping off all the extras that make it practical for everyday transport and changing the tyres.

So far I've removed 3.6kg which seems like quite a lot to me!

For anyone interested the details are on my 42 bikes blog

There is some cheating as the mudguards did have some mud in them ;-)

I have also cleaned my Hope Bottom Bracket (with ceramic bearings). Still smooth after 2 years, 6,000 miles and no servicing. Has some clean grease around it now.

3.5kg is pretty much the weight of my kit for a night out in winter, so yeah I reckon that's a good old saving.

I'm hoping to do this to my fat bike in the summer, the rack will come off (1kilo), tyres will be changed (1.5 kilos) and maybe go singlespeed (0.5 kilo?) plus inner tubes+change of pedals (0.5 kilo?)

Pretty much the same as my summer kit but with a warmer sleeping bag

Went for a test ride this evening.

http://42bikes.warnock.me.uk/2015/01/01 ... ture-2015/

Was my first off road riding in a long time (not technical but quite muddy, dark and some heavy rain). Was riding my newly lightweight and off road Shand Stoater complete with all my Bikepacking bags (not properly loaded, just some things thrown in).

Very enjoyable!

Hopefully I'll manage one off road ride combined with bivy camping before heading for Wales next Friday evening.

By my standards that is a lot of training ;-)
