So I'm looking for races to do next year, and i want to go for events that aren't 20 seconds long. But I can't find any 24 hour type events (BB200 excluded) that will let me, as an under 18, race The only one other than the BB200 that allows under 18's is the Strathpuffer, but that's a near 400 mile drive either way.
So, does anyone know of any endurance cycling that allow 16 year olds to race??
I lied to get into a (road) marathon back in 1979, you needed to be 21 to enter and I was 20. Funnily enough the race was a bit of a cock-up. It turned out to be ~29 miles long rather than the advertised 26.2. The leaders got to the first time check and thought they were going a bit slow so picked up the pace...... Can't remember what went wrong exactly but no end dropped out due to the heat and pacing issues. I recall our group been sent off route so we could cut a corner off and do less additional distance.
You could do some audax events which have no lower age limits. On the road of course but nothing to stop you using a mtb (I have up to 200km) or carrying the full load if you want to get used to carrying kit for hours on end. Been done before as 'training'.

Have a look on the British cycling Website, they have heaps of events! I know that 'Gorrick' do some longer 2-3hr races for under 18s I think, not sure where you are?
BIKE RACING IS LIKE HAVING A MULLET, BUSINESS UP THE FRONT, PARTY IN THE BACK…!!!
