WRT Trails

Post by Dan_K »

I know that ultimately, route decisions are very much up to the individual on the WRT but what are the trails generally like?
Should I plan for riding on fire road, technical bridleways or singletrack?

Reason I ask is that i'm massively excited about the WRT but also I have a choice of my full suss boardman, hartail Giant or spending loads of cash and convert the Giant to fully rigid.... or ride it on my Specialized Sirrus hybrid.....

Each choice could dictate different luggage options too.

Depends on what route you pick really ;)

From the past 2 years my routes have probably been
70% Forest/Farm double track
20% Road
5% Singletrack
5% Pushing/carrying

Ride what ever you have. Good mixed of bikes from ridgid SS 29ers, hardtails, full sus and a few cyclocross bikes as well, were used last year.

Depends how much 'fun' you would want on your hybrid

Yup, I would agree with Chew on his breakdown.

Both of the Forest Freeride events I have done there has only been about 100yrds of what I would describe as techincal. But then the Peak District is my stomping ground so we're spoilt by it round here.

I have to say though, I would be more than happy to drive to ride the trails round there whether there was an event on or not. I like the remoteness and rolling gradients.

If Chew's list is based on distance covered, then reverse the trail types, leaving the % as they are, to give you the time spent on each :)
