I avoid the DNF by adopting the DNS principle. Works very well indeed.

I would rather have a DNS than DNF.
I think I've had one DNF ever, and that was a team thing... Even a race where I injured myself, I hung about waiting for the first person to cross the line so I could roll in afterwards and register a finish
