WRT closest railway station?
Hi all, can anyone tell me which is the nearest railway station to the WRT event as I am very, very tempted but the wife will be requiring the car while I am away?

Caersws is actually slightly nearer than Mach' (we're sort of in between the two). If you went to Caersws then I'm pretty sure someone would be passing and they might be able to pick you up. I imagine more folk will pass through Caersws than will be going through Mach' to reach the start.

Re: WRT closest railway station?
Mr Fish, you seem to know a lot about trains and the WRT, whys that then? :)
Re: WRT closest railway station?
Not been to Caersws, but doesn't the train from Mach' go past your house?

Re: WRT closest railway station?
OMG!!! you seen how much train fares are
. Gonna have to persuade a mate with a car that this would be a fun thing to do  .

If you can get to Bristol, I can give you a lift.

or.....find someone who's coming from somewhere close-ish to you (i.e. up north) who can give you a lift and then find a cheap(er) train to near them (or enroute).Ray Young wrote:OMG!!! you seen how much train fares are . that's what we do when trying to work travel logistics (and it can sometimes work).
p.s. i'm a little gutted that there's no way i can make it to the WRT (especially as the format of the WRT is right up my street) but i'm hoping to be in the UK for the Bear Bones 200 (the format of which scares the crap out of me - i can tell thee!).
Re: WRT closest railway station?
Never fear, I will get something sorted. I am going to put some feelers out to see if i can interest people in and around Edinburgh in some bikepacking, might even start an informal club. My problem is that I like to ride solo too much.

Re: WRT closest railway station?
I don't know many who can ... There's only 2 black badges in circulation.i can do neither!
Remember, finishing regardless of time still results in a badge, just not a black one

Re: WRT closest railway station?
yeah.....the one thing i can usually do is keep going (at a snails pace) until i get where i need to go.s8tannorm wrote:There's only 2 black badges in circulation
to date - the furthest i've ridden in one go is 130km and the longest i've ridden in one go is 10 hours.
bugger!
i'm hoping that my upcoming 'training' and big trip in the summer will en-harden me to what lies ahead.
we'll see i suppose.....
Re: WRT closest railway station?
Wife says that I should enter the event and worry about getting there later , so come next pay day that's just what i'm going to do. Decision made :D

Ray Young,
Did you see this in the 'WRT 2012 - open!' thread??? (link below)
http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB ... ?f=7&t=474
i realise i may be sticking my nose in where it may not be helpful but then again it might help you both out if i mention this (and so worth a shot).
