EU fill power and US
I know that the two ways of measuring fill power give different results, with the US version resulting in a higher fill power number. Does anyone roughly know what the differences are, eg does US 900 equate to EU 800?
May the bridges you burn light your way

Alpnick to the forum please.
IIRC it's something like 100in³/oz difference
i.e.900US = 800EU
I could be talking rubbish though.

It must be the other way round, a lower EU number will offer the same insulation as a higher US number ... I thinki.e.900EU = 800US

Yeah I got it wrong, then edited it once I reread my post.

PHD's website also mentions something about this...
Remember that our figures are based on the standard Lorch test as approved by the International Down and Feather Bureau. These figures are roughly 4% more conservative than US Federal tests, as quoted by some other manufacturers.

That is more about the accuracy of the machine though, not the scale used to record it.
I usually estimate 10-12% less, its not as simple as -100. A bit like C into F by all accounts.

Some interesting stuff on the reason behind the difference. This also seems to agree with the PHD comment...

What is misleading is when a manufacturer states-
'300g of 800 fill European 90/5 goose down'
Ok, so the down has be sourced from Europe but that still doesn't confirm which scale the down has been measured on :!:
