Re: Fat Fighter 2025 - The Year of the Fat Slob
How is started.
13st 11.8lbs in early June 2024
88kg
How it's going.
11st 5.8lbs today early June 2025
72.4kg
Like everyone I fluctuate up and down a pound of two, but I've stayed around the 11 and a half stones mark for the last 4 months and feel that I'm now here to stay. The weight WON'T be going back on.
15.6kg lost
That's nearly 8 bags of potatoes (2kg)
I'm feeling so much better with less aches and pains

Re: Fat Fighter 2025 - The Year of the Fat Slob
11th June - 14st 5.5lb / 91.4kg
Well I've exceeded my goals! Hoped to maybe see 14st 7lb, though I believed sub 15st was a big ask.
I'm now only 3.5lb heavier than the lightest I've been in the last 40 years, which was when I was about 50...
We've even added some beans back into the diet.
Wall sits.... they're coming along ... can now manage 2mins 30! Yesterday's Hiit I did 2x 40 sec reps.
Still only riding the Singlespeed and have destroyed my previous efforts & understanding of what I can do on it in South Shropshire!
Ok there's plenty of routes /hills I still know I wouldn't have any chance of riding up, but I can avoid most of them, maybe needs a short push on a certain bits, though in time I'm certain I'll get further up them.
So I'm going to make sure I ride the SS Jones every week, maybe it'll come back to being my 'go to' bike...
I did 65 miles in 4 rides on it last week, my 2nd highest mileage week of the year so far.
One more week before NKSS in Arnhem, then another week until my Southampton ride home.

Re: Fat Fighter 2025 - The Year of the Fat Slob
17th June - 14st 6lb / 91.5kg
Weigh in is a day early so I'm taking that as stable.
I'm not at home tomorrow so weighed today.
We're backing off a little now as we're happy where we are now.
Still avoiding the obvious carbs, bread, spuds, pasta rice & sweets/biscuits/chocolate etc
but we've allowed lentils and a few more beans in to the diet.
And the occasional beer.
Off to Netherlands today .... that'll be interesting back up to 15st next week then !

Except for the beer - on another forum, apparently it and pork offends muslims, obviously I never commented that it didn't and we just don't gravitate towards it nor like it, some peoplegodivatrailrider wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 8:41 am 17th June - 14st 6lb / 91.5kg

Back again after very little effort made over the last few months. A check-up has picked up raised cholesterol. A Nurse appointment later has put it down to diet. No surprise there.
Same target as before. Next appt is in 6 months, so that's the deadline.

Re: Fat Fighter 2025 - The Year of the Fat Slob
I think I should maybe share this. Not being disrespectful to my beloved mum as she's had a tough life and hitting 70 years old now. A few months ago I had a little dig that she has to lose weight. Unbeknown to me, she had already had the 'talks' from my younger brother who is a bit of a 'lifestyle coach'.
Anyway, she got annoyed and told me how hard she tries which I agree, she does. So after that I never mentioned her weight again nor about healthier eating. She already had it healthy enough but I needed more.
Anyway, about 3 weeks ago, she rings me and tells me the Palestinian/raw olive oil is finished. Which she and my dad take daily religiously after initial encouragement from me (and maybe my younger bro). Anyway, due to lack of funds I out it off until tomorrow. Tomorrow kept not coming and eventually, this week my younger sister (40 now, so hardly young) calls me up with the bad news. Mum had had a stroke!!
Not that I fell guilty, but it was on my jobs list and IMO it's what probably kept her from it. They found a massive blood clot that couldn't be fully broken down by the clot busters for which she obviously got to hospital in time.
In any case, next time your mum or dad ask you to order (they would have paid, but I don't like to show up my financial situation - which isn't at all bad - all the time) the olive oil (or raw honey). Just frigging do it already.
None of us likes to keep being reminded about cutting weight, but at least stuff that they are happily taking, we should keep accommodating. Sad thing is that she is the one I would usually call to complain about this, that and the other!! Still annoying her mind, by reminding her to cough and open her eyes when all she wants to do right now is sleep and recover from the post stroke-fatigue

Wishing your mum a speedy recovery brother.
It's horrible seeing the effects of aging on the ones we love. My mum's 87 and pretty much house bound.
Health is the most important asset we have, keep hold of it.

Re: Fat Fighter 2025 - The Year of the Fat Slob
Funny thing/story happened today... Went to the car tyre place to sort the treads on my wifes car. Youngish lad doing my wheels, didn't tell him what I do for a living (average nurse) but instead focused on using my mum as the example and give him reason to lose some weight.
This lad was in his 20s, looked like he had about 15kg extra being carried around and was sweating like nobodys business. Turned out he was from the same/similar area as my mums so used a few local example. Namely a friend who had had a heart attack in his late 40s (carried weight like a truck) and his dad who had a stroke not long before.
Added my mums and her stroke to the equation and her (not too bad) weight management issue. Anyway, young lad tells me thus (but not the exact words)...
"I lost loads of weight not long ago and slimmed down. But now I work here and have a family I need the extra lumber cos of when the tyre deliveries come. Or else I'd not be able to cope".
Me, erm, good on you and fair enough!! Can't really teach common sense and there were a few things I could have countered with, but like people say... It's my life!

25th June - 14st 10lb / 93.5kg
up 4lb over the last week while I was away in the Netherlands which isn't too bad to be honest,
Keto went out the window, all that Belgian beer ... and burgers in buns ( virtually no other veggie options anywhere. )
Did do 82miles on the single speed though (196 since the start of June)
Great event just limited food options.
Took the geared Jones out yesterday as I'm riding home from Southampton next week...
