Wanted: small mtb or mtb frame (sorted)

Post by redefined_cycles »

The options only are either too expensive or stupid 141axle (Trek Xcaliber on Balfes bikes for £350). EBay is just making my head hurt with the amount of trash available at silly prices.

Gonna build up for my little un. Needs to be disc and preferably 27.5+. But a 26er I could probably make do by rebuilding some wheels.

Price needs to be pretty cheap pls. But happy to spend on the right bike/frame. What you got?

He’s 11 now, going on 15
He actually managed to ride my Highball in L around the block with dropper pushed all the way down so I guess he’s tall for his age.

What width wheels would this take pls Rivers. Only cos the 650b wheels I have saved to go on his bike as about 40mm wide. Don’t want to be having to go find more rims to build for it.

Thanks, and any pics would be great (as well as price, posted). Thanks.

It will take 2.3in, possibly 2.4 inch tyres. I'll post a link to some photos

Thanks Andhall. I’ll get back to you after I get an update from Lazarus and Rivers (thank you both and look forward to what we have, hopefully the carbon Whippet will make its way down soon :-bd ).

For reference, how much for the Genesis pls and where about are you based?

What size wheels does it take and how wide tyres would it accept pls? Any details are good thanks. Does it have breaks insitu or is it just a rolling chassis at present, ta.

Hi sorry for the slow response.

It is 26" wheels and I am based in NI.

If you are interested let me know once you hear from the other lads. I also have a Hope front brake and there is a relatively fresh Shimano BB in it.

Not sure what size of tyres it would go up to, probably 2.4

Thanks Andhall. I'm more or less sorted now as I've bought the Whippet from John and the 27.5 from Rivers. Hopefully between them two bikes/frames I'll be able to get him sorted for the coming years :-bd

Not sure if your on it already, but might be a shout to make a post in the Wanted +1998 category on Retrobike. Lots of people on there with lots of bikes! I was struggling to find any small (albeit retro) mtb frames for ages and there was a bunch FS on there when I first joined.
