Great Glen way & Badger Divide

Post by Scotswookie »

Hello Everyone
Im attempting the Great Glen way up to Inverness looping round the south side of loch ness finishing in Inverness and then the Badger divide back home to Glasgow on Monday , outwith doing the WHW a few times last year this will be my first full blown Bike packing adventure. I have seen a few vids on youtube and there seems to be some confusion on the beginning of the route due to the new Housing estate , just wondering if anyone has done the trail recently and has any advice or tips for the trip , i have downloaded a few GPX files which i hope will get me through the journey and i believe i have everything else covered , but always looking for sage advice

Not sure about the Housing estate issue - when I did it last year heading south it was just on the canal towpath in to Fort Bill. There are diversions round Loch Lochy and Loch Oich at the mo due to forestry and a hydro electric scheme but well signposted (Loch Oich, you are on the GGW rather than the GGCW - a bit more climbing but all good.) North of Fort A the route follows the NW side of Loch Ness which is a bit roly poly but some nice riding. Might be worth a look at the South Loch Ness Trail which goes from Fort A - Inverness and picks up some nice trails.

If you are talking about the housing estate being built on the hill in Inverness, there was some rubble rock put down to make a temporary path around the building area and a small diversion through the estate (up Polvanie View, and immediately turn north at the start of the carpark area). Info correct as of May 2023. :)

Amazing , this is what i was referring to , i saw a few videos of riders going back & forth trying to find the route through the estate and their GPS did not have the new estate uploaded yet

Was up that way earlier in the year and there is a signed path taking you round the new estate and onto the route. If you take your time it’s easy enough to follow.

Stay in the banks of Loch Fyne in Argyll.
