I really like that. I've not met or visited the workshops of many framebuilders but Shand really impressed me. Very neat and minimal filleting, experienced guys, fantastic finish. I've had a couple of custom bikes in mind for a year or 3 and one of them will be a Shand, once I've really settled on the details.

One of these frames is on my wish list so maybe one day. If I get more than one wish it will come with A Rohloff hub, Gates belt drive and Jones loop bars.

Shand wont do full custom at the moment James. I spoke to him between Christmas and new year. Too busy.

*edit: Well, he wont for me at the moment. He was super nice about it but explained he just couldnt commit to one in the near future.

I'm patient when it comes to getting something like that right ) I'll have a TW-made sample of the frame in a couple of months to try out first anyway.
Shands customised stock models approach is very canny. Less time faffing with endless details and more time making great bikes based on a solid format.

The rack set up is uber hipster, and it has a KNIFE strapped to the stem but the finish and drive is lovely and shiny!

Wow. I love that purple oilslick finish with those fatboy tyres combo.. credit to Spesh, to me that may be the nicest looking bike they've made since the late 80s.
Not sure about the rack and the knife but hey where else do you dump that wild boar before setting up a fire for dinner?!

Is the Di2 a good idea on something that's designed to cover big distances? I know there's a dynamo on there which could (possibly) be used to charge the Di2 battery but surely it's just something else to break / cause grief?

I know very little about Di2 so could be missing something

Well, you've said it now. Wait 5-10 years, dynamo hubs will be lighter, more efficient and self powered electronic shifting will have filtered all the down to SLX

I wouldn't touch it for longer distance or travel use but for a road tourer in Europe or the US it's probably pretty low risk. Just doesn't fit the KIS basis I prefer, the Shand looks a lot more sensibly specced. I just liked the style of that Awol and the photos do it very good service.

I'm pretty sure that bike will only be cycled to artisan coffee shops, gourmet cheese emporiums, vinyl-only record shops and jazz gigs... it is very shiny though! Might try the knife idea, and put a fork on the other side of the stem.
