Not decided on gearing yet but am considering making it semi-fatWood chippers and a down tube shifter?

How about fitting a bmx fork to the front for easy added tyre clearance?

That's possible Ben but the 20 will only take a 1" headset so I might need to machine a new steerer and replace the 1 1/8" BMX one.How about fitting a bmx fork to the front for easy added tyre clearance?
Updating the thing should be fun, Raleigh were really trying hard to go their own way ... even the BB thread is different from anything else, as is the rear and front wheel spacing

Have you told him you're going to butcher his immaculate "bike that time forgot" or should I only mention it once it's in the van?

My 'plan' is to see if I can turn something most would consider unsuitable for extended off road trips into something more suitable ... I've plenty of ideas so hopefully it won't be a complete disasterseriously, what are you going to do with that thing?

So far I have resisted the temptation to try my Revo out on the dynamo...s8tannorm wrote:It's already got a hub dynamo and hub gears!sounds amusing if nothing else

Feel free to give it a go if you can be bothered ... I believe the old SA hubs kick out 2w rather than 3w but 'should' still power modern led lights okay*So far I have resisted the temptation to try my Revo out on the dynamo...
*this was taken from the internet so may or maynot be correct

Don't you worry I've been all over the internet like a rashThis may be of much interest... some seriously hot-rodded Raleigh Twenties out there:

Plans are now slowly starting to solidify in my head although there's still a few things undecided ... the standard brakes don't, so will be uprated but the jury's out whether to fit Vs or go mad with discs (both will require some engineering).
Gearing is also to be decided ... SS seems too easy and might limit things, 3spd hub is easy and cheap but not really in keeping with the 'Monster Shopper' ethos, 8spd hub could work but it'll be costly, so that really leaves a cassette and mech' neither of which the standard bike uses or makes any allowance for :?
I do have a nice Sella Italia saddle for it though
