I bought some Mavic Crossone wheels (about £125). Fairly light for the price and not bad looking.

For off road use, make sure whatever wheels you get are at least 2 crossed
My old fulcrums weren't crossed and all i did was knock them out of true
Other than that road and cx wheels are similar strength but generally cx wheels have better sealed bearings
Hope that helps

I'm using Mavic CPX 33 rims on Hope hubs. Road rims are fine for cross tyres, If you intend using very wide tyres might be worth looking at a wider rim?

I had Fulcrum 7 on my old Jake for a few years and they were fine. I even went loaded old skool road touring on them (Ireland end to end). I only managed to wang the rear out once when particlarly careless off road. Descending on a cross bike requires a bit more empathy than a mountain bike.

Have Shimano rs10 on my current cross bike simply because that was what was on my road bike I split up.
