Packet of instant mash, the Morrisons stuff below actually tastes like mash. Empty it into a freezer or P&S bag and add some pre-cooked bacon, sausage, black pudding or pretty much anything else you fancy. Also take a small amount of grated cheese to mix in once the mash starts to look like it should.
For those with a sweet tooth, suffering from massive calorie depletion or just fat knackers. It's a little more involved but it's worth the effort. Ideally 2 pots is best, something like a Mytimug and Myticup because the cup fit's inside the mug.
Mix up 150ml of powdered milk in your cup and add half a mars bar or snickers depending on what you like. (cut it up into little bits first).
Put some water in your bigger pot and sit the cup inside.
Put the whole thing on the stove and keep stirring. Once the mars bars have melted add more and keep stirring ... 2 mars bars should be enough.
While the mixtures warm dip whatever's to hand in it and eat. Cadburys fingers work well but if you've nowt else so does a stick or your finger.

Ok, haven't got the quantities to hand so the weights are rough guesses:
70g cous cous
40g nuts (sunflower and pumpkin I usually use)
30g chopped apricots (sultanas also work ok)
1 spoon Swiss Bouillon stock powder (flavour and quantity, to taste)
For the non-veggies a pepperami broken up (spicy is best).
Tasty and can be done in a Pour and store bag by pouring in the boiling water and leaving it to stand for 5-7mins. Can also vary the amount depending on how hungry you are. water should be about 1cm over dry food and stir once after a few minutes.
So, just wondered if anybody had any more wonderful ideas for meals whilst out. I'm out tomorrow evening for the first time since i put all my kit on the tip and am looking for some inspiration. Last time, all i took was a packet of noodles and and squeezey tube of soup and added hot water. It was.......OK!
I shall be cooking using my purchased meths stove from here using my Alpkit mug, so i will definitely take something else in case it all goes disastrously wrong! :D

I've always found things that require mixing (mash/custard) take a bit of practice to get right while out on the road and using a Meths cooker.
For ease/tastyness you cant go wrong with some couscous and a bit of salami.

Has anyone tried putting a steak in a ziplock bag with a marinade (red wine and herbs and stuff) - I reckon it would be okay like that for a few hours? Just thinking along the lines of picking up some supplies in Braemar/Ballater butcher then heading into the hills!
And how legal is catching fish?!

Microwaveable rice pouches (eg Uncle Ben's) are great. Heated with a splash of water with smoked tofu, black bean or chilli sauce and, if it's a one nighter, spring onions, it's really good. Not super light but then it uses v little water to cook.
