It's the first of four mixes with commentary by James Lavelle as he revisits the That's How It Is club night and examines it's impact on the emergence of the fledgling Trip Hop scene.

Jon Hopkins live at Glsto, via the iPlayer.
Went to see Jon Hopkins in the winter at the Sage in Gateshead. It was one of the most surreal experiences I've had at a gig. The venue has a quite a sophisticated feel to it, being modern and designed mainly for classical concerts, and he starts playing solo piano... until at some point it turns into a full on rave. And then goes back and forth repeatedly. Brilliant though.

I really need to join his mailing list or some such, would love to see him live...

You ever heard the album Jon Hopkins did with King Creosote. Bloody vaguely exciting.
Indeed it is! Coincidentally, I've seen King Creosote (alone) at the same venue.
Edit: seeing as I'm here... spent most of yesterday afternoon listening to this fellow doing his thing with a piano and modular synths: https://www.youtube.com/c/RaffaelSeyfried (he has some stuff on Spotify but it's very different).

Mostly today... it's Pacha Ibiza Deep House. Had Covid not happened I'd be on the island right now.
Thanks also for all the replys re: the Idles, Looking forward to seeing them in the future. Hoping that the festivals go ahead next year & that they play Beautiful Days.
Anyway, all the links in this thread, there's some wonderful tangents to head of in.... a bit like the WRT, who knows where we're heading!
Oh FFS, you pair sent me down a watching Japanese kids play stuff (and obviously enjoying themselves into the bargain) for an hour... How dare you...
Just for that I’m going to give Spanish flashmobs. The first one I just love the energy and sheer stick that up ye-ness of it al: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iop2b3oq1O0 I’m not sure, but I don’t think their much impressed by bankers...
The second is because I’m a sap really... remember the banking crisis? Spain was hit especially bad and someone trying to brighten up a day at the dole office... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kS709ZyZ_YU
I first came across this in my late teens or maybe I was twenty. I just loved it, something about that particular set of notes (I’d call it a scale but I think it’s probably modal...). Anyway, it was the first time I was conscious of the Spanish scales and for me it just resonates...
Just been watching Rockfield; The Studio on the Farm on BBC iPlayer. For anyone familiar with the famous recording studio it's well worth a watch; certainly brought back a few memories for me!
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.
Currently getting through this singed copy of 20 years of DJ Yoda mixes. About 20 audio mixes along with 3 AV video sets all presented on a cassette tape shaped USB stick.
Lately...it's been a lot of Melt Banana (Cell Scape/Teeny Shiny), Godflesh (Pure/Streetcleaner), Nasum (Shift/Inhale-Exhale) and Obituary (Slowly We Rot). When the caffeine levels hit the right peaks...Dark Angel (Darkness Descends) is about the velocity to work at.
Outside of sounds to keep the voices in my head low....Cardiacs, Neko Case, No Doubt, Alison Krauss, Breabach, DRI, Dope Lemon and many more. My brother picked up the new Faith No More album recently which is pretty good and regularly throws on Primus, Mike Patton, Deltron3000, Dan The Automator and such.
