So, any reason why this wouldnt work?
I have a mountain bike with a rohloff, riser bars, disc brakes, suspension forks etc
I also have a road bike, which is great for fast commuting but otherwise is, well...boring.
If I had a cross bike, with discs I guess theres no reason why I couldnt have a Rohloff shifter and gearbox all set up on it and just slot the Rohloff wheel in?
Would have to change the tyre, but swapping a tyre once or twice shouldnt be that much hassle should it...

If your anything like me you will soon get fed up of switching tyres. I tried a similar thing with an mtb and putting road tyres on it to get fast miles in on the road. I lasted about three weeks then just couldn't be bothered any more.

My commuting bike has tough slick tyres.
This makes off road comical

Probably would yeah!
A better option might be to swap my road frame and fork for a cross one
