Most of my small lightweight rucksack's (15-25L) would weigh under 1kg packaged up and will fold up fine to fit in the £3 1st class bracket.
But yes, to agree, the new prices do take some getting your head around. We currently post 30-50 items per day and we're having to look into other options via couriers.

Check the dimensions of your parcel and make sure you can pack to within the specifications of "medium parcels", or better, "small parcels" no thicker than 8cm. As a fall back, send special delivery, which currently don't have the small/medium/large size rules applied to them.

Re: permission to rant!!!
The cost of posting a RF stove or Myti stove has just jumped from £2.70 (second class signed for) to £5.20 (second class) ... 'tis rather stupid.
May the bridges you burn light your way

collect+ is looking like the best option for posting now....
Re: permission to rant!!!
Collect plus looks good.
I sent a bike recently by senditnow. It's operated by parcel force but for less than half the price
