Anyone here familiar with the workings of the Alfine8 hub?
I had mine serviced recently but it has come back with just the overdrive working, so it is in 1 st through 1-4, then goes up to 5th and stays in that gear 5-8. Very briefly yesterday while riding 2-3 rd came back for about a hundred metres than back to just 5th and 1st. I think maybe something is out of alignment?
Also how easy is it to check the seals as I could just replace the internals if the gears are shot.
It is quite old and has had some abuse so I wouldn't be too upset about having to replace the inner, which would of course save me the cost of a wheel rebuild.
Cheers.

Re: Alfine8 innerds.
If you could select the different gears before the service then I would presume this should still be the case after the service.
Sounds like the hub has lost it's indexing, as above I would suspect the cable / shifter position first.
There is quite a lot of info on hubstripping.com but it takes a bit of finding as its not the easiest if sites to use.

This Yahoo group has some knowledgeable people on it. May be worth asking there:

My Alfines have been bombproof gear-wise, so I'd agree with all above referring to cable indexing. If that proves not to be the case tho, the 8spd is pretty straightforward to open up & have a look at the gear splines..
