Anyone use Esbit cooking kit?

I'm planning a wee 3 day bivvy trip soon, and already have a wee Whitebox stove and alpkit ti mug, but need something to complement them. Been looking at this -

As I could mix and match the stuff together. Anyone used this, or seen anything similar?

Firstly the spirit burners are very heavy and also very slow.

Secondly, I played about with the 550ml version that just uses solid fuel (same stand set up as this one). No matter what I did I couldn't get it to boil water. Thinking it was my fault, I sent it to flatfishy who also couldn't get it to boil any water. It is however, okay for simmering and 'gentle' warming.

I think there's lighter and better ways of getting the same thing.

I use the 550ml esbit set with the recommeded fuel, i find useing one 14g tab for 5-6 mins then adding a adding another 8g tab gets it to rolling boil.
Esbit fuel blocks are in my opinon best used for a single boil when you dont have any twigs to hand to burn (basicly esbit blocks are my back up fuel)
I intend on adding a evernew meth burner to my set to get a quicker boil for multiple boils.
Also i got mine solely for rehydrating food not cooking and they do smell and are best used out side.

Have a look at evernew stuff if you are able to spend more, if you just want to get your self started go for esbit stuff, the 550 ml set is surprisingly small and cheap under £20 online

Cool, I'll get one of the wee folding solid fuel burners from fleabay instead, I dont really need it to boil water as the whitebox will be used for that, more for gentle cooking. Any ideas on a nice light alu pot for cooking and eating out of? Alpkit ti mug is just a bit too wee for my greedy portions!.

Something just slighly bigger would be ideal.

Mugs/cups are not my strong point but my two cents would be some thing with a lid and poss spout and more a good mix of hieght and width to reduce bulk, if that makes sense.

I've got a new primus 1l pot I have never used if that's any use? I always just boil water in my alpkit mug

Lid & spouty bit & non sticky it seems
