It runs around a normal sealed cartridge bearing in the middle - specifically the thin ones that get used inside Hope freehub bodies.
I removed the seals to make sure they ran as smoothly as possible.
The chain was wrapped around the bearing first and held in place with a zip-tie while I glued the chain to the bearing with a hot glue gun, and then removed the zip-tie*
I cut and filed down two road bar end caps to press into the centre of the bearings, filing the rear of them to make sure they didn't catch on the chain.
* turns out the zip-tie adds quite a bit to the integrity of it, as without it, it didn't pass the playground test on the first day
I reglued and left the zip-tie in place and they've been OK. I'm thinking something like araldite might be better then the hot glue gun glue
