Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...
Seems to be a shift (back) towards rear racks, albeit more minimal ones, at the expense of seatbags (or maybe just the big ones). I can understand why given dropper clearance and greater stability/weight distribution, and ease of packing/unpacking and removal. I've made that move and have zero regr...

Good stuff! I'm thinking of catching the train up sometime and doing similar over a long weekend sometime. Thanks for the write-up.

Actually, I'd just point them at cycle.travel's route map for inspiration. I'd not checked it out for a while and it's a really good resource for this kinda thing.

Re: Gentle Cycle Routes...
Not for me, I've not given up quite yet (still not been out since my diagnosis though  ). Friends of mine are over from Canada and they're wonder if there are any nice (quiet) routes in the UK that they could do. Maybe 25-40 miles a day. About 5-6 days of cycling. I know there are a few "...

Lovin' it! so I think this only happened a few weeks ago Since April at least, Phil … IMG_1549.jpeg I crossed and followed the obvious track for a little while before realised it should have stayed on the other side and climbed up to the boggy plateau. Edit: I think I'm looking at the same broken b...

Thanks Bill, I'd looked at yours previously when you listed it but I'm after 4.8" clearance and a 197mm rear.fatbikerbill wrote: ↑Mon Jun 23, 2025 10:29 pm My travers is still for sale. You would struggle to get a lighter fat bike.

I've never looked at this thread. I didn't realise we were a nation of stout drinkers! IMG_4669.jpeg Sounds pretty good! It was! And I can recommend this one in a similar vein. Found in the 'Booths of the South', aka Waitrose. https://wiperandtrue.com/cdn/shop/files/Render_EspressoMartiniShake.jpg?...

Found a barely used but long since forgotten about Hope cassette and freehub body in the parts bin while switching wheels about, so now have marginally lower gearing on the gravel bike.

… It's either a 6MD Gatewood tarp tent … After one too many nights being woken and/or kept awake by my Gatewood Cape flapping I've bought a couple of additional guy lines to attach to the loops on either side, but not had the chance to use them yet to see if that improves things. I always look to f...

Can't help you with an XL—save or mentioning the Bow Ti that showed up on Fleabay y'day—but if you come across a large I'm after upgrading my Ice Cream Truck to something lighter. I'm actually thinking of going down the AliExpress route but something in the UK already would be better.

Cheery enough  It's over two months now since my back threw it's toys out of the pram, and I've barely turned a pedal since. However, it survived Download last weekend (which got much sillier than my previous post implied!), so surly it can survive Jennride?! Bike packed for a trip to Stavele...

Re: Best bikepacking bike?
Thoughts on a Trek Procaliber? Seen it in the flesh and it's quite a sexy bike (albeit one of many mainstream bikes) I rode with a guy on one last night who's not long had it, and he's really pleased with his. They are really nice, but with them being XC race bikes seem to be very compact/small tri...

Re: Lakeland 200, rain stopped play
What I genuinely love about these threads is the casual "then you've just got the push from X to Y to do", and I'm left thinking "hang on, from X to Y was the most hellish experience I've ever encountered on a bike, there's no 'just' about it" … one BBer's flow trail is another's...

Re: Lakeland 200, rain stopped play
Just out of interest; how would you compare it to the HT550? Well I've completed a LL200 and not the other! From my knowledge of the HT550 route—knowledge which still has huge gaps in it—the LL200 is more concentrated with less time for recovery before the next big 'feature'. But then the HT550's f...

Good to hear how you got on Jason, even if it didn't work out for you. All an adventure regardless, innit? Is Scarth Gap the horrible diagonal climb up a steep scree covered slope just after the YHA? This was probably my least-favourite part; especially trying to lift the bike over the two st...

I noticed the the few-year-old Al Jazeera Sunbirds documentary being linked to again the other week, for tragic but near inevitable reasons:

Alpinetrek seem to stock a fair range of Vaude stuff, some of which looks worth a punt.fatbikephil wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 9:02 pm On a related noted I was looking (yet again) for some summer shoes and came across Vaude ones which look far better than any offerings available in the UK so may have to search out a suitable Euro website.

Just notice a mail from Woods Cyclery listing STOMPLOX SLAK SPD Shoes , which said 'Designed for both riding and walking" and 'wide fit for comfort and space for your toes to breath' which sounded promising but then a warning that 'The sole adhesive may peel off if the shoes are walked on in wa...

Old Specialized Recons= brilliant including HAB new ones = not that good. So I replaced my old ones in Nov as were starting to fall apart after 3 years, which is fair enough given the time on feet, New ones have morphed into ever so trendy MTB/Gravel shoes. Still really comfy but the tread has chan...
