Advice on early retirement planning
Me and my wife are early fifties and have reached the conclusion we want to try and aim for an early retirement (who doesn’t?!?). Ideally we are thinking in about 3 years time, by which time the kids should all be self sufficient. We both have pensions, some savings, mortgage free and are comfortabl...

What routes would you recommend for a beginner?
Having not ridden for quite a while I feel like I'm starting again from fitness, experience and confidence levels. I was just wondering what routes people would recommend to someone starting out. I'm thinking of those that are a defined route (either sign posted? or with decent established navigatio...

Gravel/mtb/road - organised events/challenges
Further to some of my previous posts I’m going to try and build my fitness/time on bikes by booking some organised events for next year. thinking of stuff like Calder divide, Brighton to london, Dunwich Dynamo etc. Anyone have any recommendations or suggestions for ones to do? would like to fill my ...

I’ve got one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00PITYCWA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 It’s great, easy to put up and stored in bag so I take it when camping in van. Really discounted today as well! So, I ordered one of these, and it showed up today. Very sturdy fra...

Re: Newbie bikepacking tent advice
I've got an alpkit soloist XL - good value for money v weight but it's quite tight size wise and I'd have preferred one where put external sheet up first (cant remember the word I want for that!)

Re: The Tor Divide - bikepacking challenge across the Peak District
This looks great, well done in setting up.
I’m definitely interested and hope it might inspire me to get fitter over the winter so I can do this and the WRT.
Just need work out if I ca; be certain on dates so can enter now

Wanted Boardman MHT 8.9 medium
Bit of a long short but I'm wanting to buy a relatively cheap 2nd hand mtb. Decided on boardman mht 8.9 as it's light, decent spec and whilst £1k new I reckon can get a good one for <£400. Bit of a longshot but thought would see if anyone on here has one or knows of one for sale. Just to make chance...

Gravel bike clothing
rockbus Full Member I know I’m opening up myself to ridicule and/or wear what you want responses! but I’d like some recommendations on gravel bike clothing. I’d like to get some shorts and tops for gravel bike riding. Preferably stuff which will look ok if I pop in to towns or pubs on my ride. So ye...

What about out along the cycleway through Newbold Comyn Park for a lap of Dreycote Water on a gravel bike? Not certain this link will work but https://explore.osmaps.com/route/18008969/dreycote?lat=52.310665&lon=-1.480185&zoom=11.2527&style=Leisure&type=2d Check Komoot for other ide...

Re: Not getting out there, wasting time (and my life) instead
Definitely interested in some small group rides if arranged. Coincidentally had the event guide for the Calder divide trail arrive today so that should provide some motivation to do some training for that. James - up for that challenge, I’ve loads of road routes so prefer something for my gravel bik...

Re: Not getting out there, wasting time (and my life) instead
This thread strikes a lot of chords with me. Riding / fitness / motivation has really tailed off since covid, especially as my main riding buddies are unable to ride any more. I was wondering if there was any scope for a regional BB get together once a month or something where we could get some dat...

Re: Not getting out there, wasting time (and my life) instead
Rockbus - give us a 4 fig grid ref of where you live (quick search suggests Warwickshire) and we can maybe plan a few short jaunts/set a few challenges - as a nudge to get you out. A sort of virtual Mr Motivator? Thanks, don’t even know how to get a grid reference but my post code is cv32 7tb, Not ...

Re: Not getting out there, wasting time (and my life) instead
Thanks all for the responses.
Appreciate some of the concerns, glad to say it’s not a case of being depressed, just a bit down and p’d off with myself.
I’ll have a think about some of the ideas but at least try and focus on at least getting out of the house and doing something.

Not getting out there, wasting time (and my life) instead
Firstly, I know there’s a complete irony that I’m spending my time posting this on a Friday after midnight ……but Am I the only one who is caught up in a habit of wasting my time thinking about, planning and buying things for adventures, events, trips etc but not actually doing ANYTHING?? So frustrat...

Campsite recommendations for camper van
Made a promise to myself to use my van more this year (Vw t4). know there are a few on here with vans so what are your favourite campsites? Im happy with relatively basic facilities, would prefer nice location, clean and cheap over ones that seem to cost more than a hotel! Allowing camp fires also a...

Re: Songs to play at your funeral
My family are all aware I want "Nothin' but a good time" by Poison at my funeral. Totally inappropriate but it's my favourite song and how I want to have lived my life. Cant stand the idea of morbid hymns being played. My main concern is if they can find a venue which will allow pyrotechni...

What other sports/fitness/exercise do you do?
I’ve lost my mojo with the bike at the moment, even the great weather this week hasn’t got me out. So thinking about whether I should give something else a go for a while as I desperately need to do some form of exercise to get back in shape. I’ve given loads of sports a go over the years (football ...

Hiking socks (actually for Glastonbury!)
Not sure if it is just old age but I really struggle at festivals with my feet really aching. Reaching the point that even for the first night headliner I am struggling to stand for the whole set. Bit worried that the answer may be less walking/band watching and less alcohol but also been recommende...

Best bike for WRT for under 1k (second hand)
I failed miserably at wrt, mainly due to lack of fitness. But like any cyclist I’m blaming my bike as well (calibre bossnut) which I found too heavy. So I’m going to spend the next year getting fitter so I come back stronger but also keeping my eye out for a new bike. Budget will be limited to under...
