You're right Ben, weightier kit and more volume. One of my riding buddies is less tall than I am (by some way) and they marvel at how much space I have on the bike to carry stuff (frame triangle, seat post clearance, front wheel clearance) but always seem to miss the fact that I have to carry bigger...
