Re: Sorry to have to drop out.
Its taken nearly 2 weeks to source a replacement crank from Spain, along with a new set of LOOK X-Track Race pedals. Thankfully I'm now back up and running again. Sorry to have to drop out.
Very disappointed. Got to Caersws train station at 10:20am this morning, after about 1 mile of cycling to the start, a Black Nissan Novaro with a wide trailer on the back was speeding down the road and unable to stop, an on coming car had to brake to a stop to allow the Nissan through, It was then t...

Re: WRT Trial ride with kit
What a stunning night for doing this trial, kit was superb and the bike was truly in its element cycling to the USK reservoir, now its setup for bike-packing. The Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M tyres 700x45c are magnificent on all terrain, providing superb grip and cushioning once loaded. I haven't been...

WRT Trial ride with kit
Going for an overnight ride and camp with the bike fully kitted up in prep for the WRT in a couple of weeks time, time is flying by but looking forward to this little trial.

After scratching my head trying to find the BBcodes on my phone, realise now that BBcodes only get generated from desktop/laptop computers. I'm hoping these will now display? https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51986946346_bc586e2916_k.jpg Croix De Fer Gravel Bike by Julian Hands , on Flickr https:/...

I have to highly recommend also the LOMO 5L dry bags, these are perfect for the front forks and a bargain at £4.95 each, better than £44.95 for Apidura bags.

Re: Komoot
Also worth stating that Komoot works from grid references, use a site to convert OS references to grid references and all checkpoints can easily get plotted.
Also easy in Komoot to move the order of the separate points to re-Route accordingly.

Re: Croix De Fer Tyres
Purchased and received this morning a set of Pirelli Cinturato 700x45c Gravel M tyres for the event, fitting them tonight tubeless with slime and the aid of CO2 cannisters. First impressions are very good, should look the part and feels quality. My Croix De Fer is almost complete now and looking for...

Re: Hammock & Tarp
Yeah, I used my Rig7 as well and found it to be less than ideal (I used to use a DD Tarp XL canoe camping but it's really heavy and bulky). Luckily my buddy on the Loch Shiel trip had his DD Tarp XL with him (he was the driving force in wanting to hammock camp on that trip) and we were able to make...

Hammock & Tarp
Has anyone previously planned routes to utilise a Tarp & Hammock? This is what I used when I Bike packed from North to South Wales and had a really comfy nights sleep, tempted to use it on this years event, but curious if anyone has accommodated this arrangement with any real success, as it can ...

Re: Croix De Fer Tyres
I think I've just found the answer to the tyre issue for this event:
The Jetson One fully electric flying bike
at £68,000 it might be a bit overkill and may need a few charging points along the way.

Re: In need of friends
48 year old married male looking for like minded individuals to have fun times ........... Sorry, but that was the first statement that came to mind, truth is, my son is too old now to go bike packing with his dad as it is not cool enough, and he says I need to find my own friends. I have been out ...

Re: Croix De Fer Tyres
If you don't want to go tubeless then Conti AT or speed rides are good (and half the price of conti gravel tyres) both are 42mm although the AT rides come up a little less than that. I've used both in a mix of terrain including stuff thats wholly inappropriate for a gravel bike and come out sunny s...

Re: Croix De Fer Tyres
My advice would be to get the biggest your frame will take, which should be 45mm for your frame, assuming you're running 700c wheels. WTB Resolute's are generally well regarded and have good puncture resistance, I ran some last year and they were OK in the dry, not so much when it was wet or muddy....

Croix De Fer Tyres
I'm a newbie to Bike Packing and looking for some kind advice please for suitable tyres to use on my Croix De Fer 30 for the WRT event in April, currently use the CDF for commuting daily on road/track with Gravelking 700x32c tyres but they have poor puncture resistance and need something a bit tough...
