Re: sorry to ask again but Wahoo or Garmin ?
Double down on the above, I think it doesn't get more basic than an etrex. I used to resent not being able to edit or upload routes on the fly, but I since realised I can stick the etrex sd card into my phone, on which I can do the routing, and just copy the gpx files into the etrex folder inside th...

Team work!
Just before I commit, are the pedals of similar health as the crank? No remarkable play or gritty nittyness?

Re: Thunderstorms
Really cool comments, I want to reply more thoughtfully, but here's the xkcd I found instructive a while back: https://what-if.xkcd.com/16/ Also, the recent backpackinglight podcast episode was about exactly about this: https://backpackinglight.com/episode-85-backcountry-lightning-risk-management/ A...

Re: Thunderstorms
I'll dig out an xkcd post tomorrow about lightning and how it's somewhat less straightforward than it seems. But before bed, I'll share more about my embarrassing relationship with thunderstorms. I never knew I was afraid of thunder until I was close to some, alone, just as I discovered I don't like...

So if I see 'risk of localised thunderstorms' on mountain weather, should I change plans or stay home eh?

Thunderstorms
I have a bit of a fear of thunderstorms, which I discovered on my (road) touring around Europe. I never really got over it, or had to learn coping strategies, because thunderstorms seem to be so infrequent here in east Scotland. It's a bit easier to deal with on audaxes and touring because you can c...

Re: Riding in sandals....... anyone ?
We convinced OP already, but here's some further propaganda: Sheldon Brown endorsed spd sandals (scroll down a bit): https://www.sheldonbrown.com/shoe-pedal.html Alee Denham uses them for his touring: https://www.cyclingabout.com/cycling-spd-sandals-the-most-versatile-touring-shoe/ More Alee https:/...

Re: Riding in sandals....... anyone ?
SPD sandals are the final form. Fight me. I am with you. For classic cycle touring, SPD sandals are the thing. I have the SD5s. (check) comfy to walk in (check) firm enough platform but not too stiff either (check) roomy fit means easy microadjutment of feet so less spd-specific fit induced discomf...

FS RS100 wheelset and tyres [Sold]
I run 650b now, so these are just taking up space. I'd say there's about 1000km or less on them. Jack brown 33.3 tyres have some wear, tbh these don't last ages. Bearings have been regreased a while back, and have sat in a closet since. They spin well.

WTD cheap rear wheel; 700 disc 135 qr 8 speed
Friend had a rear wheel stolen from his hybrid so looking for a replacement.
As per title, we need a 700 disc 135qr, ideally 8sp cassette body. Don't know the disc diameter but that's easy to sort out.
It's just a hybrid commuter so nothing fancy. Postage or pickup around Dundee.

Re: Tent and sleeping bag recommendations
250 is def a wiser choice, it's only my proclivity for a minimal system that prevails every now and then. Every now and then I think about getting everything super compact (not so much light) for the fast trips with not too much sleeping. Then I realise it's silly to think I'd ever notice +/- 2l of ...

How do you feel about the usecase of the 150? I always felt kinda tempted by it, but then again seems kinda thin?

Re: Sciatica & cycling!
Maan, I just got it last week. If I had to guess whether it's disc or piriformis related, I'd say disc. My left leg has been numb at varying degrees throughout the weeks, I'm limping around with an improvised cane. I haven't yet seen a GP or physio, apart from talking to a GP over the phone, and I'...
