Re: Scotland Tour
I may do, but I suspect I might be a bit far south at that point. I think the end of May will be around Arran/Kintyre/Islay (though I have no idea what sort of time i'll make!)

Re: Scotland Tour
Cheers Dave but I’ll probably be getting a ferry from Islay/Colonsay to Oban so will miss you. But will let you know if that changes

Scotland Tour
Hey everyone, I'm soon to set off on a 2 month tour of the highlands and islands. Starting near Dumfries and then heading out via Arran, Islay/Jura, Oban, the Outer Hebrides and then the North Coast. After that I'm a bit unsure which way I'll go, depending on what time i've got left I may head North...

Re: Tour de Galloway
I now have no mojo for cycling my local routes, I need more long miles of deserted forestry gravel fire roads in my life I followed my Galloway weekender up the next weekend with an overnighter along our only long distance trail, Norfolk being pretty flat it didn't really have the same vibe. Time t...

Re: Hebridean Way
When I did it a few years ago with the ex we had 7 days including the two ferry days (afternoon ferries Oban-Castlebay and Stornoway-Ullapool). So 5 full days on the islands. We averaged 40-45 miles a day, although I could have done more she was knackered each day! We did get held up at the Berneray...
Re: Galloway
That looks like loch Dee in the background It sure is! Wasn't always visible though  Can also provide similar images of Loch Dee  This was the day where it rained alot, so didn't get many photos as didn't want to get my camera too wet! http://www.majaba.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/AE...
Re: Galloway
I can't have missed you by much in the end, I started riding on the Thursday. Can confirm glorious, beautiful and brutal. Especially the non-stop rain for 40 miles of Friday! Now just to go through the many many photos and plan the next trip up there! http://www.majaba.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/...
Re: Galloway
Based on packing already, i'm assuming we won't cross paths as i'm not going for a week or so yet!

Re: What Handlebar Bell - I know forgive me
In the rockbros vs spurcycle differences, this article (written from Spurcycle's side) was fairly enlightening: https://cyclingtips.com/2016/08/a-tale-of-two-bells-spurcycle-vs-the-counterfeiters/ I might try the Lezyne classic. I struggle to have a bell when i'm loaded as i'm running drop handlebar...

Re: King Alfreds Way.
The ridgeway was in fine condition on weekend just gone. Not sure where the rest of the trail goes around there, but most of the tow paths around Marlborough/Devizes were all good, so imagine it'd be similar?

Re: Replacing a Bar Bag and Harness
I've used cages on my forks that probably are not designed for it with no issues. Carbon bladed fork, just used old inner tubes to protect the fork then held the cages on with cable ties.

Re: Galloway
I might also be doing a similar route in early-mid September. I'm planning on coming from the East, doing the same/similar from Raiders Road to Loch Doon but my route then heads East again. I'll be on 35mm tyres so hopefully they'll cope with the forest tracks.

Re: All road, warroad, endurance help.
Thompson R9300 if you're not after carbon, it's definitely on the road end of the spectrum and I've made a few mods over time to make it a bit more gravel friendly. But can fit 700x35mm with guards or 700x40mm (just) without. Has mudguard mounts and hydraulic discs. The UK distributors only appear t...

Re: Which bike lock
I used a Dakine snowboard lock before too, nice and easy and can't lose the key. Though a bit bulky in a jersey pocket, swapped for the hiplok now as it's alot smaller/lighter.

Re: Which bike lock
Also got one of the Hiplok Z-Loks, not going to stop a determined thief with tools, but will stop an opportunist thief outside a shop/cafe. Lightweight and can be curled up into a jersey pocket.

Re: Are all braze on clamp adapters equal??
I had alot of trouble setting my GRX front mech up because it's got the new style stabilising screw (that i'd not seen before). Without setting the stabilising screw up correctly I got alot of rub as the mech flexed diagonally across the chain line. Once I correctly setup the stabilising screw, I co...

Re: Newbie Norwich Norfolk
There's a facebook group "Norfolk MicroAdventures" which can be useful for seeing where people are using for trips around our fine city. I've done Winterton dunes as an overnighter, Burnham Overy seems to be a favourite in the group that I'll hopefully get in later in the year. Err, you a...
