Re: Todays ride
First full day on the Old Chalk Way. Are you planning on doing the whole shebang up the Icknield Way and then Pedders Way to Holme next the Sea...? If so, just note that Suffolk Council have shut some of the byways it uses, see https://www.suffolk.gov.uk/roads-and-transport/public-rights-of-way-in-...

The Oxford Canal
Has anyone ridden the towpath of the Oxford Canal, specifically lets say, the last 10 - 20KM or so into Oxford? Have to be present in the Oxford office for two days next month and am considering cycling there and back, with a couple of nights out in each direction. Was trying to think of nice ways t...

Re: Gloves...
I've been using Castelli Arenberg mitts in the summer, for both on and off road duties. If found them fab when brand new, but they quickly lost their plushness and the stitching seems to fail relatively easily. They do (did?) make a full finger glove version, which I've been meaning to try, but neve...

Re: WTD bar end plugs to go under slide on grips
Bar end plugs are actually called bar end plugs! https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/search/?term=bar%20end%20plugs or 10 for 3 quid for the placcy ones from AMZ. I was on SJS earlier looking and those Brooks one's look just like what I'm after, except for the price... 😱 Probably got some to give away chea...

Re: Todays ride
Possibly to early to claim the mojo is back, but positive steps in the right direction over the weekend. Went out for a decent ride on Saturday: https://media.bobarnott.com/gravel/strava1226730960347442442.jpg Then went out on Sunday evening, slept near a ditch, then rode through a load of rain on M...

WTD bar end plugs to go under slide on grips
I'm in need of a pair of those cheapo bar end plugs that you put in before putting using soft slide on grips. The kind of thing that stops you getting core sampled in a crash . I've been using some SQlab 711 grips, but I've dropped the bike a couple of times and the bars have punched through the gri...

Re: Folding Bikes - Experiences..
Wish I'd known, I've been wavering on the edge of advertising my Bike Friday for sale, since I'm not using it much. I even got as far as taking a load of photos, but haven't posted an advert. Any interest on here? I nearly asked on here last year if anyone had a folder going spare, as I fancied try...

Re: Aviemore to Dalgety Bay
I did wonder why Google Maps was saying that there was a Greens and a Co-op right next to each other; with only the Co-op showing up on street view. Decent enough opening hours for me too, I can stop at ~80KM and roll in for breakfast the next day, or try and get through Braemar late and pick up bre...

Re: Aviemore to Dalgety Bay
Hi Boab Ballater, Braemar, Kingussie, Newtonmore, Aberfeldy and Auchterarder have co-ops. Tomintoul has a good shop. There is a cafe at Rannoch station a few k off route and at Bridge of Balgie in Glen Lyon. Kenmore campsite has a cafe and posh deli Looks like the Co-op in Braemar is permanently cl...

So, don't forget to ask for the extra test at your next MOT gents! Glad to hear nothing was amiss Reg! I had a surprise prostate exam last year, thankfully it seemed normal. "Surprise", as I was there to discuss low iron levels, but it turns out to be a requirement in order to be referred...

Re: Aviemore to Dalgety Bay
I've decided to revisit this trip, as mentioned in passing last Cheery Friday. Going to take the last week in May off and get the train from Dalgety Bay to Aviemore on Monday the 26th and cycle back to Dalgety Bay over four days, hopefully making it back on Thursday the 29th. Thanks to Phil, I have ...

Re: Advice needed.
Regarding insurance, Bikmo and Laka are two that get advertised on some cycling podcasts I listen to. Both seem to offer insurance for cycling outside of the UK, so might be worth a look to see what they cover. Getting your bike and stuff nicked on the first week of the trip would be a bit of a down...

Rode my bike yesterday, rode my bike again today. Can't remember the last time I rode my bike two days on the trot, my legs are in shreds... Maybe if I say it here, I'll pull my finger out and actually book it all in. Going to take the last week of May off, visit all of the family over the course of...

I make a big bag of trail mix, 125g packet of peanut M&Ms, 100g bag of macadamia nuts, 100g of some sort of tart dried fruit i.e. cranberries. I mix it al together, then consume half one day, half the next. If there's a SPAR or something, and given their prevalence, a pre-mixed protein shake; th...

If you'd be prepared to pop down to East Angular for the Wolf Way, then there's also the Rebellion Way too. Pretty much any of the CyclingUK routes would be suitable, depending on how much, or little, tarmac you want to be involved - https://www.cyclinguk.org/routes

Re: Small socket set
I get the below for our field engineers who work on professional laundry and catering equipment. Not cheap and not something you'd carry on the bike but a great catch most jobs little set. We get a company discount so not sure what it would cost outside of that. Probably around £40.00 I'm guessing?...

Re: Talk to me about CO2 cannisters
I stopped using CO2 when I switched to tubeless a few years back. Glad to hear I was probably being over cautious, as having a couple of large ones would certainly ease any anxiety about getting tyres back on properly following a bad puncture.

Re: Small socket set
Realised last night that I still have an ancient accessory kit that came free with a cordless drill about twenty years ago. Popped out to one of the sheds this morning and it's got plenty of small sockets in it. They're not in the best state, but would do me for now, if I can clean them up a bit. ht...
